I just acquired a 3500 in terrific shape. I can upload and download no problem. When I try to learn codes into, the remote blinks, resets, and then learning times out. I am on the latest firmware from this site.

Is this behavior common? I've always used

Not enough info. What equipment are you trying to learn codes from? The remote sometimes has issues but depends on the equipment being learned. Please provide some more information.

Thanks,
Lyndel

When I push the learn button in the programming software, the remote beeps, blinks, and resets. I haven't even gotten to the point of sending a code into it. It does this every time. For testing I was using my tried and true Sony XBR remote which is only the most common code set on the planet. Even once the remote bounces back from its reset, it ignores anything fired into it and learning times out.

Exactly what equipment? Is it a Sony TV? Or are you just using a Sony remote that has codes for other equipment?

It's any remote. Like I said, I don't even get the chance to learn. I am using the pronto software. I tell it to learn in the software. Remote acts as described above. I still try to send a code into the remote, though It doesn't look like any other pronto I use on a daily basis. Learning times out. I used a SONY tv remote because I know it is not RC5 or something random. I've also used the same remote to learn its codes into other devices just to make sure it wasn't my tv remote.

I think we are way ventured off topic here.

The question is: what should the pronto do when I tell it to learn in software. How does it normally respond?

Good question. It beeps when it learns the code but not sure about what it did before. I never owned a 3000 but I do know learning on that remote was indeed problematic. Folks usually download a small PCF and learn codes onto buttons standalone and then upload the PCF to the PC.

The 3000 was crap for learning. It was not a good remote. It also had bad issues where the touch screen would often just die. It did not have the longevity of its predecessors. I have the 3500, however.

If IIRC, the 3500 is a 3000 with more memory.

The screen was much higher contrast and the hard buttons had much better etching. It was a dark grey rather than the crappy "galaxy grey" that was so popular in the middle 2000s.

It also didn't have touch screen issues like the 3000. I don't know how well it learns. So far it doesn't. :-)
