I have a Mac, running Parallels (Windows 7), and having just purchased a new BluRay player, I am trying to connect my mac/pc to my RU990 remote. The remote is not recognised by the mac/pc and when connected, it looks for a usb driver and fails to find one.
I have done a Windows update, searched this site and many others (including the Philips site) to no avail. I have installed various versions of Pronto Edit to see if they contain a driver, but no. I do not have the original disk which came with the Pronto.
I appreciate that the remote is relatively old in tech-years, but is there any way I can find, download and install usb drivers for this thing in order to connect my mac/pc to the Pronto?

On the ProntoPro cd-rom I have two driver files for WinXP_2K_ME:
Pronto2G.inf
Pronto2G.sys

As I have installed ProntoPro on a Windows 8-system (see TSU7500 and Windows 8) I had to install the drivers, too to get access via the usb-poort.
The two files aren't big: 2 and 16 kb.
If these files aren't available via Remote Control Central I could send them - as attached files - to you if you give me - by pm - an e-mail address.
Best regards, Jürgen

Thank you for responding Jurgen. Unfortunately, according to Remote Central, your account is not "verified" so I am unable to send you a private message.

I just verified it (I had to change an old e-mail adres).

Try it again, please.
Best regards, Jürgen

Jurgen, I don't appear to have received anything in the email address that I sent you. Can you please check and resend?
Also, can you tell me what to do with the two files? Should they be stored in a specific place on the pc?

Sorry Jurgen, just noticed the files had gone into my junk mail folder.
I would appreciate some help, however, on where they should go and and how I should use them.
Many thanks.

Chris,

As you have probably read in the other thread (TSU7500 en W8), I created a virtual environment with VMWare and from there that program I first installed a retail version of Windows XP, and from there I installed the Pronto NG software.
At a certain point in the installation procedure it was asking for the driver software (which where not in the directory I was using for installing). I directed it to the two files (which you have got) on my cd-rom and everything went well.

After that I could use the software and upload en download (to and from the TSU7500 and the RU990/9980) freely.

Jürgen

Thank you again Jurgen.
I am debating if I really want to bother installing another operating system on my Mac under Parallels, just in order to overcome the problems with the usb connectivity issue. I think I might shop around for an alternative, which might mean abandoning the Pronto and purchasing something else.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Chris,

Perhaps you should try to sell it. There are still people who want to buy one.

(Probably I would it, too, but transport is too expensive to my country.)

Good idea Jurgen. I have just noticed that one has just sold on ebay for £46 plus postage and I think that one didn't have a battery. I may consider it.
Take care.

chickenlegs,

I don't know if you still have the remote or not. But I just wanted to let you know that I have a Mac Mini running Windows XP on VMware. Probably the same as Parallels, not sure though.

But my point is, as soon as I installed ProntoEdit and plugged my TSU-7500 in. All the needed drivers were installed and I was able to upload and download to the remote.

Of course I had to get by that little dialog of "You have connected an USB device. Where would you like to connect it to? Mac or Windows?" That is because I am running both Mac OS and Windows XP at the same time.

After choosing Windows XP, everything was fine from there. I made it to remember the connection to for faster connection the next time.
