Hi all

I came home the other day to find my wife complaining the remote (our RU990) was misbehaving.

Basically, it has the "white screen of doom" that I've seen mentioned here. It powers up, double beeps, and the screen is just white - although it responds to the touches where the buttons are, and still emits IR/RF as it should.

Anyway, I've acquired a Marantz RC9500 and switched the CCF over to that, and everything works - but that means I now have :

a) A boxed (with CD/manuals/charger & dock) RU990 (latest firmware - reset to factory default CCF)

b) A boxed SBC LI900 RF Extender (with charger and all IR leads)

The RU990 has suffered a few scratches on the sides of the body - but the screen and battery door are unmarked. It would need a new battery though, as I'd not long replaced it and I'll keep that for the Marantz (as they are the same).

I'm not sure if anyone has successfully carried out a DIY repair on an RU990 with this fault, but the £210 replacement PCB I found on the net was (methinks) a tad overpriced.....so if anyone is interested in it for spares/repair - let me know/make me an offer. [EDIT : It's in the UK!]

(I'm happy to split the RF extender out)

Just bought two RU990's on ebay.co.uk for 100 GBP each...not a bad deal I believe.
They do pop up regularly, or the almost identical RU980.
Auction prices vary wildly though...

I had the Marantz RC9500 for not much more than that, with an RF extender, dock etc, boxed almost as new.

I paid "quite a bit more" for the RU990 when I had it (2nd hand, but boxed as new) a few years ago :\

I did see two RU990s going on eBay, but given the comments from some other users who have had the white screen, I thought about sods law, and tried the Marantz....

It seems "quicker" in terms of screen change, but I'm not as much of a fan of the button layout. 6 buttons around the cursor, instead of four, and two less hard buttons overall (RU990 has 4 at the bottom of the screen, Marantz has 2, forming the 6 overall).

But, the CCF transferred over (with a minor bit of modding required due to said lack of additional hard buttons confusing it a bit). All my lights (HomeEasy, RF controlled) are happy assuming it's the RU990 :)

Still, someone may want a screen etc for theirs, so I'd rather it went somewhere where someone could fix/use it :)

Hello,

i have a SBC-RU980 with a broken display. Does the Display of the Maranz fits to mine ?

I look for a spare part display.
