I am having to accommodate the Cisco/Scientific/Comcast RNG200 DVR codes in my many clients with Pronto NG remotes and RFX6500's . Seems like none NG's will learn these new codes. After copying the codes from MEGA18 or a TSU9400 program (which will "learn") all seemed fine until selecting some three digital TV channel icons. I use a .3 second delay between each number. Most worked except when there is a 0 or 1 for the first or second digit , then the next number would not enter. Delays or IR duration would not help. Strange as it is I found entering the number twice worked. Ex. channel 150 became 1550, 416 became 4166. Even channel 11 became 111. Has anyone experienced this or found a better solution?

Sounds like you may have a toggle bit issue. Not sure how to fix this for your specific case. Have you reviewed the Classic Pronto FAQ (not Pronto NG FAQ) for suggestions?

And did you see the other thread in this forum on RNG200?

The Hex Codes in the RTI Mega18 List look clean to me. They are XMP Protocol which is an unreliable Protocol.

Here is the Digit 1 Hex Code generated with MakeHex.

Digit 1
0000 006D 0012 0012 0008 0022 0008 0041 0008 001D 0008 006A 0008 0032 0008 0032 0008 002C 0008 0065 0008 020D 0008 0022 0008 0065 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0022 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0BF2 0008 0022 0008 0041 0008 001D 0008 006A 0008 0032 0008 0032 0008 002C 0008 0065 0008 020D 0008 0022 0008 003C 0008 0046 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0022 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0BF2

You could also try it without the repeat,(don`t know if it will work)

0000 006D 0000 0012 0008 0022 0008 0041 0008 001D 0008 006A 0008 0032 0008 0032 0008 002C 0008 0065 0008 020D 0008 0022 0008 0065 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0022 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0BF2

There is a File in the Files Section that has a Excel File which has this,

0000 006A 0000 0000 0007 0023 0007 0043 0007 001D 0007 006E 0007 0033 0007 0033 0007 002D 0007 0068 0007 01F4 0007 0023 0007 0068 0007 001D 0007 001D 0007 001D 0007 0023 0007 001D 0007 001D 0007 0C50 0007 0023 0007 0043 0007 001D 0007 006E 0007 0033 0007 0033 0007 002D 0007 0068 0007 01F4 0007 0023 0007 003D 0007 0048 0007 001D 0007 001D 0007 0023 0007 001D 0007 001D 0007 0000

which just looks like a poorly Learnt Hex Code to me, but hey it might work.

Cheers

Lyndel, Toggle bits may become a real issue. At a recent Elan training, their software includes a fix for the new toggles, created and sold by Philips, believe it or not. My understanding is the first toggle, for eg., turns on, and the second turns off. They are not discrete but if you cover up the second IR toggle press the command again it will not work until pressed again.

Jason, Thanks, I will give that a try. Could you send me the same info for 0.
This is the learned code I used from 9400 PEP for 1.

0000 006C 001E 0001 0008 0022 0008 0042 0008 001D 0008 006D 0008 0032 0008 0032 0008 002D 0008 0068 0008 01F2 0008 0022 0008 0068 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0022 0008 001D 0008 001D 0008 0C43 0008 0022 0008 0042 0008 001D 0008 006D 0008 0032 0008 0032 0008 002D 0008 0068 0008 01F2 0008 0022 0008 003D 0008 0048 0008 001D

Don't confuse toggle bit with Toggle Codes. (Power Toggle vs discrete Power On/Off).

Toggle Bit is an encoding technique used to detect if a button is pressed 2 times in a row. Such as 0 0 7 in a channel sequence. The actual remote's IR data has a bit inside that flips on/off (toggles) on subequent presses of the same button such that the IR receiver can detect that user really did want 0 0 7 and not 0 7. Pronto has difficulty learning such codes in certain circumstances.

Again, please see the Classic Pronto FAQ and don't ASS-U-ME. There are details/workarounds there.

Does the Hex Code above work correctly?

If it does this should be 0.

Lyndel, There you go, could Cisco be using Toggle bits. It really wouldn't make sense for numerical commands. I do not like TOADS, and I work around them if they are there. Elan Via Tools programming I mentioned is the "fix" to remedy the toggle bit flip.

Thanks Jason, I will not have the opportunity to try them until next week. Will let you know if they fix the problem. The code I posted works but the next numerical code after a 1 or 0 need pressed twice.
Most worked except when there is a 0 or 1 for the first or second digit , then the next number would not enter. Delays or IR duration would not help. Strange as it is I found entering the number twice worked. Ex. channel 150 became 1550, 416 became 4166. Even channel 11 became 111
Please send the "0" without the repeat so I have it to try.
Thanx

Kennafl,

My apologies. I misread your original response and mistook your on/off to be a reference to Discrete Codes (not codes with Toggle Bits).

However, may I point out that you are confusing the term TOADS with toggle bits?

TOADS is a term coined years ago by Dale Crawford that is specifically directed towards a device that has Toggle Only codes (such as Power Toggle but not discrete Power On/Power Off). Has nothing to do with on/off bits that are part of IR code data.

Here's a link to the definition of TOAD according to Daniel. :-)

Jason, Thanks the 1 without the repeat works great. Could you generate the 0 without the repeat? My codes learned with the TSU9400 seem to be a bit more reliable than the Mega 18 commands.

Thanks in advance
Ken

Jason, You're the Hero! The non repeating numerical codes work like a dream. RC should post them for Cisco cable boxes. Anyone with NG Pronto's and RFX's can use them without a problem. Anyone without all the other commands can use Mega18 or learn them with a TSU9400. One more cudo to you. I needed a discrete on or off command for a Sony receiver zone 3, after a quick search I found the discrete off command posted by you. It was not available without retrieving my Sony CIS box. Thanks again!!

Hello,

I have the same issue with a RC5400 and a comcast rng150 and was able to follow the thread and use jasonvp's posted codes for the digits. This works fine - thanks to you all for this.

I don't understand the reference to Mega18 - could someone explain how to get the rest of the remote codes for the other cable box functions?

Thanks in advance.
