I've been away from Pronto programming for many months. Today I went to modify an existing pcf and it would not load in the editor. In fact, no pcf will load including the samples. I tried the iPronto editor and it has the same problem! Everything else seems to work. Feels to me like something is corrupted in Windows, but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has ever experienced this problem. All the other features of the editor appear to work OK. Anyone have a clue?

Tried reinstalling? Maybe some system update changed a file...

I did reinstall the iPronto editor - without a successful result, but didn't reinstall the ProntoProNG editor. As an aside, the ProntoEdit Professional editor won't open at all. I get one of those Windows loveletters stating that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Maybe I need to remove them all and reinstall all of them again. On days like these I think about buying a Mac.

Sounds like the XML V4 problem. Search for "XML".

I found the RC thread ([Link: remotecentral.com]) where this issue is discussed. Seems the culprit may be MSXML. I haven't tried to fix it yet, but I think I know what happened. I recently downloaded and installed Microsoft's program "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" that is supposed to test a PC to see if it can run Vista. In the process, it installed a new version of MSXML (I don't remember which one).

Thanks (in advance) to Peter and Lyndel - I was confident that you guys would nail this one.

BTW, adding insult to injury, I couldn't get the Microsoft Vista test program to run. :-((

Just to close the loop.

I unregistered msxml6.dll from the directory c:\windows\system32 and then registered msxml4.dll in the same directory (using Lyndel's instructions) and the Pronto editors now work.

I want to mention that there are as many as two dozen msxml*.dll files on my drive running from versions 1 up through 6 that are located in several different directories. Only the files located in the windows\system32 directory affected the Pronto editors.

I think this one deserves to be in the FAQs.
