Ok, here's my problem:

I am trying to fix a remote for JohnFox (a user on these forums). I managed to get the unit to boot and it beeps when I press a hard key, but it does not respond to the touch screen. The LCD is dark (the latch that holds the ribbon cable is 1/2 broken), however, if I remove all power from the unit, hold the reset for ten seconds, and re-connect power, the screen blinks on, then nothing else (I can't tell if it's just the backlight or what, but my remote does the same thing before the Philips screen).

What this tells me is there is enough of a connection on the LCD ribbon to get SOME kind of signal to the LCD (at least the backlight), and that the remote is booting (I previously thought the main board was dead because mine would boot just a few seconds after re-connecting power). The touch screen IS connected.

Another issue I have is that my laptop will not recognize that his remote is connected to the computer. If I remove his and replace with mine, my machine instantly sees it. I remove mine, replace it with his, and nothing. Not even a 'USB device not recognized'.... NOTHING. Pull out his again and replace with mine and walla...there it is (obviously new firmware is out of the question).

I am pretty sure I can fix the latch.... but shouldn't the remote show up on my computer even thought the LCD is having issues? Especially considering the hard buttons are obviously working?

As a side note: where can I get my hand on SNL Color?

Help Lyndel!!!

The screen flashes for a second at startup just like yours does. After that nothing. Do you suppose the remote has a power on self test just like a computer and when the screen fails it shuts down? Once you've powered it on do the hard buttons work? Do they beep when you press them?

Hansen,

Read the release notes, specifically the section on Icon Design and use the COLOR_OverrideLarge (RC9200) or COLOR_Override (TSU6000) folder with either an RC9200 input CCF or a TSU6000 input CCF.

Try to connect the unit to the computer without any screen.

If the unit is working it should be seen for you computer even without the screen.

You have two units in hand. Try John´s screen in your remote.

Try your screen in his remote. So you can find if he has a damaged mother board, damaged screen or a firmware corrupted.

I have already tried swapping the screens, and both work in my remote. I read another post somewhere about a hard reset or something and tried that. After about 2 minutes in the dock, 'beep-beep' and now the buttons respond but it still won't talk to the pc at all...as if the USB cable were never plugged in. I now know the mainboard is not toast, just that the little black clip that holds the ribbon cable down is half gone.

Take the mainboard without any screen, put the battery and connect to the computer. The board should work without a screen too.

It looks from here you have a bad board or you have a corrupted firmware.

The board is not toasted but a part of it is not working. I have a TSU3000 board here that is the exact opposite of yours 7000 board, hard buttons don't work but screen works.

Hansen,

You specifically asked where you could get your hands on SNL Color. You must use the migration mode and version 2.0.0.8 that's available in the Files section.

If you download SNL 2.0.0.8 and see the release notes, migration mode is explained. In fact, there's a readme in a 'migration' folder that explains how I do my migration, although rather cryptic. Migration mode is the capability to use a Marantz RC9200 input CCF and generate an RC9200 output CCF (that can be imported into PENG or PPENG) but performs screen layout in such a way that when the CCF imports into PENG/PPENG, graphics are positioned to the user area of an NG screen and has dimensions of 240x253.

Ok. Back to the USB issues. I got the touchscreen to respond now, but still no USB. Just to get things on an even playing field, I opened my remote, disconnected the LCD and touchscreen, and connected the USB. My laptop finds it right away. Connect John's, nothing. Both remotes are powered up and responding to all hard buttons at the time of USB connection. John's still takes about 2 minutes to boot, where as mine only takes a few seconds (as it usually does).

??????????????????????

Oh....John has emailed me stating the he has gotten it to work (screen, USB, ect...), he just hasn't been able to get the screen to work while in the case, which is where I offered to help. Still working on the latch. I am going to try what he said he did to get the screen to work and if I can get it to work, then I think the only fix at this point is going to be some hot glue.

Tore into the 2nd PPNG I got on ebay:
The mainboard is different from what is in mine and John's, and the lcd is also different. The touchscreen and LDC cables are reversed, which leads me to beleive that someone put a TSU3K screen assembly and mainboard into a PPNG case (well, they TRIED to), and box. I did a search for the screen p/n and only two returns from google. One was a remote central post about a broken TSU3K glasstop, and the other led me to some LCD discussion forum where the same person posted. When I connect a battery to the unknown board, it beeps twice, then a second later a HIGH-PITCHED squeal can be heard. After it sits for a few minutes, the squeal stops. If I press a hard button, it comes back. Obviously something to do with the backlight controller. That mainboard also will not talk to my laptop.

This test is leading me to believe that possibly only ONE pronto USB device may be installed on a given PC?
