I have been trying to learn the new Cary Cinema 11 codes and I am getting some unusual (I think) results. For example, when I learn the MUTE button I get one of these two codes:

Either:
0000 006C 0000 000C 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0041 0020 0020 0041 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0041 0020 0020 0041 0020 0CCD

Or:
0000 006C 0000 000B 0020 0020 0040 0040 0040 0020 0020 0040 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0020 0040 0020 0020 0040 0020 0CCD

And when I put these in IR Tool I get Device = 0 and Command = 0 in both cases. Actually I seem to get Device = 0 and Command = 0 for all the buttons on the remote.

I guess I am used to codes which have a device and command where the command changes with each button.

I am still learning here, hence the post, but is there some other coding scheme being use here?

Thanks,
Ray

Try using DecodeIR.exe against a CCF containing buttons with your learned codes. These are either RC5 or RC6 codes but DecodeIR should tell you what they are.

Are you using IRtool modified (i.e the modified version)? If so try downloading it again. I had to do this recently because I assume the decodeIR.dll was mistakenly removed or altered.

Either you have the wrong IrTool.exe or IrTool.exe can't find DecodeIR.dll
Get current versions from:

Thanks everyone for the great advice. The problem was not having DecodeIR.dll. Without it I had been making progress but hit some codes that required it. Now that I have both pieces in the same directory things are working fine.

One more quick question for John. When you said:

1. The second is toggle 0.

what is meant by "toggle 1" and "toggle 0"?

Thanks!

I wish I had time to clean up and release my private copy of IrTool.exe. It displays more of the output from DecodeIR.dll than the available version.

DecodeIR generates "T=1" or "T=0" for RC5 codes to tell you the state of the "toggle bit".

Several protocols, including RC5, have a toggle bit that changes state with each press, so when you press the same key multiple times it alterantes between two different signals. That way the receiving device can reliably distinguish a long press of a button vs. two shorter presses of the same button with very little time between.

If you have an RC5 signal in 0000 format in a CCF file and run it through DecodeCCF.exe, you will get that info from DecodeIR. But the available IRTool.exe ignores that part of the DecodeIR results. If you paste a clean sample of RC5 in 0000 format into most versions of ProntoEdit, it will get immediately converted to 5000 format. In that format the single Pronto Hex string represents both toggle bit states, so DecodeCCF won't display any "T=". So with present tools you only see the "T=0" or "T=1" when decoding a signal in a CCF that wasn't recognised and converted.
