Hey guys,

I'm using a HTPC with Beyond TV and Beyond Media, using the Firefly RF remote. I've used various Prontos (although I made the mistake of buying an RC9800i. What a piece of crap) Anyways, I'm going to replace it with a 7500.

Here's my question... first, am I correct that the 7500 has RF ability built in? If so, can it learn RF codes as it learns iR codes? If not, can the 7500 emulate other RF remotes, such as SnapStream's Firefly remote?

If anyone can throw me a few bones I'd definitely appreciate before I drop the $600 or so on the remote.

Thanks!
Adam

The RF capability of any model Pronto NG is only there to operate the optional RF Extender. You IR signal is transmitte dusing RF to the Extender, which then converts it back to IR to operate your equipment.

It is theoretically possible to directly operate RF equipment but only if it uses the same carrier frequency as the 7500 (which is unlikely), and you fnd a way of getting the codes.

Well crap :) Sure would be nice to have full PC control with my existing USB / RF setup on the same remote. Oh well I'll keep poking around.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I know this is an old thread, but in case someone reads it in the future. Snapstream, who sells BeyondTV, also has an IR remote available. It is called the Firelfy Mini, an it is actually less expensive as well.

My TSU 3500 seems to be learning the codes for it as well with the exception of the continual hold of a button does not work. (Actually I can make it work, but then the inividual press of the buttons response slowes down to a crawl).

Just an FYI for anyone who has built an HTPC with Snapstreams BeyondTV. P.S. I think the Firefly Mini also works with MCE and Myth, but you might check.
