Has anyone succesfully beenable to store Daiken A/C remote codes on their Pronto's? I have a TSU-7000 and I have had no joy.

Cheers,

Fleetz

Tried unsuccefully in past.
Believe Daikin use a long IR string, so try changing the duration in the editor.

I have a source who might be able to provide them for a RTI remote, will see how I go.

Thanks Mr Freeze,

Let me know how you go.

I also have Daikin aircon units, and have struggled to use my Pronto.

I asked Daikin though and they told me it was impossible because their remotes send out complex strings.

I took this to mean that they send out "18 degrees", "fan medium", "cooling" as separate codes, but my follow up email hasn't been replied to.

I guess that seems consistent with the "long codes".

I also found that my Pronto 980 (7000) couldn't learn anything coming out of the daikin remote at all, but an old B+W version could sometimes learn something (although this didn't work when sending). Generally though I could only get it to learn when pressing "temp down", when it was already on the lowest temperature. I assumed this was because holding down the button cycled through different codes.

It's most frustrating because obviously the Daikin controller is really sending IR, but I now have 2 remotes in each room.

Duration is relevent for an IR signal that has a short frame that must be repeated many times to make a signal that takes enough time.

Air conditioner remotes often have a super long frame, too long for an ordinary learning remote to learn it. That still might not represent a lot of time. I mean "long" in terms of the Pronto Hex string that would be needed to represent the signal. If the individual IR bursts are fairly short, there can be a lot of IR bursts without taking a lot of total time.

If you post some Pronto Hex from learning attempts, I can give a better estimate of what is happening and whether there might be a work around.

That is surprising. Assuming it is IR, not RF, learning a wrong or partial signal should be easy.

If the problem were what you describe from holding down the button, then a Pronto would just learn an incomplete code, not fail to learn anything. And also, if you think holding down the original remote button causes a problem (you might be right) try a really short press of the original remote button.

Thanks john, for your interest and your offer of some help.

I returned to this piece of equipment last night.

Short key presses work just fine, and I'm now able to learn something on my 7000 pronto every time.

BTW: The way the aircon remote works: is that it has it's own display and it's own memory. i.e. it appears to have what would be toggle codes, but it actually remembers and sends discrete codes. [I'm sure that's not clear, this might help. If you cover the IR emitter and press "on/off", then the unit will not come on, but the screen on the controller will say "ON". If you then press "on/off" again whilst pointing at the unit, the screen will change to "OFF" and the unit will remain off.

I take this to mean that every time you press "temp up" for instance, it actually sends a code like this: ON, Temp to 19, Fan to 3... etc. (although there is no display on the actual aircon unit to verify this.

Anyway, when I try to use the codes learned by Pronto, the aircon unit doesn't do anything. It has a little LED that comes on when it is receiving IR, but this doesn't light. This is the same behaviour as others have reported.

Here are a couple of example HEX codes

Do you still have that old Pronto?

Some of the experiments that may be needed to solve this would be easier with an old (pre NG) Pronto. Other experiments need a second PC readable IR learning device (such as a second Pronto) in addition to the Pronto being tested.

learn something on my 7000 pronto every time.

If I understand you correctly, a short press always learns something but the learned command never works.

it actually remembers
and sends discrete codes.

I was assuming that the remote remembers the state of all the settings of the AC and each IR command is a complete specification of the entire state. What you observed supports that theory.

The samples you learned are obviously truncated. The signal continued (hopefully not much longer) but the Pronto stopped recording.

I don't know whether a Pronto can send a slightly longer signal from hand edited Pronto Hex than it can learn. I hope so.

Also notice the 0454 in the learned signal. That is a long enough gap that an older Pronto should be able to send everything up to that point as one IR signal in a sequence and then send the rest as a second signal with little enough delay between to match that 0454. So if we are lucky and there is only a little lost at the end of that signal, and we discover the lost part (see below) the older Pronto could send the whole signal.

An NG Pronto can't delay that little between steps in a sequence. Even asking for no delay you get more delay than that. But maybe the AC doesn't care about the length of that long gap. Maybe it will be equally happy with a much longer gap.

To find out the beginning (hopefully all) of the missing part of the signal, you need to learn the SAME exact signal again but somehow make the Pronto start recording a tenth of a second after the original remote starts sending. Then I can match up the begining of that learn against the end of the learn you already posted.

In learning, I assume you press some button on the Pronto as the last step of telling it to start learning. Some small fraction of a second later the Pronto actually starts learning. Some larger fraction of a second (or longer would have been OK) later you press the button on the original remote.

You would need to experiment to tweak that timing. First try pressing the two buttons together. Maybe the time an NG Pronto takes from the button press to actually starting to learn is close enough to a tenth of a second to get what I want.

If the Pronto learns the wrong chunk of the signal, you should be able to adjust a twentieth of a second in either direction by starting with one finger higher than the other and move both down pretty fast to press the buttons at almost the same time.

If the Pronto starts so late (on simultaneous press) that it misses the whole signal, you need to experiment with pressing the Pronto button then really fast but not simulataneous press the other button.

In all that it is important (and maybe difficult) to keep both remotes aimed and stationary when pressing the buttons. If using one hand for each remote and going fast makes you jerk the remote while pressing, that would wreck the results.

If you post a few samples with your guesses of where they were relative to simultaneous, I can probably match enough pattern to extend the known part of the signal.

I'm afraid I don't have an old (non NG) pronto, but I do have two NG colour Prontos.

Yes, that's correct.

I see your ideas about capturing the end of the codes. I will try this and revert back. Unfortunately I'm still at work at it's 7.30pm so I don't think I'll have time for this tonight. I'll try tomorrow.

Hi John

It was a bit of struggle and a lot of trial and error, but I think I managed to get an end of a code. I have used the code for off.

Here is the 'normal' recording - that is the start of the code:

I'm sorry it's such a struggle, bit that isn't enough of the end to have any confidence of where it fits. If it is really the same signal and it does overlap with the starting learn, then there is only one way it could overlap, so we could construct a macro and a single version of the full code and see if either work (but I don't have time tonight).

But since that end learn is so short, if it didn't work, we wouldn't know why. With a longer end learn we would have a better understanding of how it really fits together.

Did any of your other attempts yield interesting results? (Something other than matching the start or missing entirely).

Any chance of getting the "end" again but starting a twentieth of a second sooner.

Just a twentieth of a second ? :-)

No, this was the only attempt that yielded anything other than just the same as when you wait (i.e. the start), or nothing at all. I tried lots of times. After a while my Pronto hangs up and I have to reset it.

I will make some more attempts - I think it may be the weekend now though. But it's getting pretty cold over in the UK now, so there's definitely no rush.

Thanks again

Hi johnsfine and leemcg,

I hope you don't mind me jumping into this thread. I too am trying to get a Daikin airconditioner into a format that will allow me to get it into my TSU-7000 and also some more cost effective programmable remote for a number of bedrooms in a house we are currently builing here in Australia. After a number of attempts to get some sense out out Daikin via the Daikin Austraila I realise the only way is down the path you guys are following. The official Daikin line is "we don't give out this information" but get this the local Daikin support guy has said if you find a solution can I let him know as he get this request here in Aus regularly.....a bit off in my oppinion....anyway.

He is where I am at.

1. I have ordered a Daikin multi split system for the new house.
2. The local Daikin dealer who will supply and install the system in Cairns (about 4000kms from where we currently are living) has kindly supplied a remote he had laying around that I could borrow and bring back to play with.
3. I have a TSU-7000 which will not learn the Daikin codes.
4. I have a USB-UIRT IR TX RX and their IRNHELPER ir utility which has enable me to do some Daikin hex capture. I can reliably capture using this system.
5. Unfortunately I don't have a Daikin system to try here (yet) I am looking around I am sure I will be able to sort that out....how convienient it will be to get access at will be the question.

Anyway that said if you want any other codes sent to assist the process please let me know and I will arrange to read and send them. The IR utility indicates the IR frequency and it report hex codes around the 33khz to 33.3khz mark.

I all the searching the net the common thought follows you guys where the code is too long because it send the other setting at the same time.

So the quest I think is to be able strip out the actual command you want and not send the redundant commands. That is providing the Daikin unit lets you!

As we suspected they seem to be sending, temp set then fan speed and then if the swing mode is set.

By the way the hex code I sent in my previous post has the swing mode in the off position. I didn't realise that this was sent until I saw this information.

I hope that this makes sense and assist to working out what needs to be done to have them work in the pronto and hopefully some other remote brands as well. As I stated in a earlier post for a lot of the ares I am hoping to use a more cost effective remote maybe a Sunwave or URC the like. I will still be using my Pronto TSU-7000.

Does this info assist johnsfine??

Regards,

Fleetz
