Okay, just got my RFX6500 yesterday. Didn't really have time to mess with it, but did notice that the extender wasn't controlling my XM tuner. I really need the RF solely for the receiver and the XM tuner. These two sources are what I control when I'm not in the home theater. The receiver is a three zone denon, so RF is a nice touch. I haven't tried the individual blasters yet. Anyone have any experience with this tuner-RF extender combination. Thanks in advance.

I own a TSU7000 which I use to control my Polk XRt12 XM Reference Tuner in conjunction with my RFX6000. I don't have any problems with control in this regard. I can tell you however, that the IR on this Polk unit really blows. The performace is very poor even using the original remote. As such, I would highly suggest running an IR emmiter from your RFX6500 directly to the Polk unit's IR receiver window if you have not done so already.

Thanks. New that could be a solution....was trying to get the regular blaster to work so as to not have to run additional wires. Thanks.

HAve 2 in the field and both were shakey untill I put the Flasher right on the unit. Plus I had to set the level all the way down on the 6500.

Sorry to open this again, but I just got a Polk tuner and trying to make the RFX6500/TSU7000 work with it is driving me nuts!. Direct IR works perfectly, but when I try to use RF there is usually no response.

I have tried putting the blaster near the unit, but only have an occasional single command get thru. I have also tried to use the flashers, at various levels - again without much success. If I point the top of a flasher at the area just below the visible screw at the right of the display (or is this the IR sensor) I can get a number or two to register, but not consistently.

I have tried the TSU3000 file from here, as well as the file I learned when I was using Sky-Fi. Both of these are flawless with IR - neither one works worth a D**n in RF. BTW -- The original remote works very well.

First -- where is the sensor located on the front of the Polk? Then, assuming a flasher is necessary, what signal strength do you suggest? Any other clues would also be appreciated!

Thanks,

Craig

With the following IR emitter placement I've had no problems with the Polk unit whether it be via the TSU7x00/RFX6x00 or TSU9600/RFX9400.

Frank -- Thanks so much. That placement resulted in a significant improvement - now it works about one-half of the time :-( The best signal level seems to be level 2.

Has anyone had one of these things apart to verify sensor placement? Any experiments with duration? Are Frank, Dave Swindell and I the only Polk owners here?
What about wiring directly into the xrt12?

I note that the 12v trigger works to perfection.

To follow up -- It seems that all is well :-). In setting up the RF I had set both the menu device and the IR codes "device" to RF. Resetting the menu page to IR cleared up all sorts of problems. I suspect that the infamous "toggle bit" problem was cropping up as I guess I was sending duplicate commands - causing all sorts of confusion in the XM receiver. I still don't understand why this was only a problem with RF, as IR always worked perfectly.

Much appreciation to Lowpro for the assistance!!

OOPS!!! I spoke too soon. Really strange!! Tuner always works fine with IR. When turned on (via 12V trigger) for the first time, the RF works perfectly. After some time the tuner only responds partially or not at all to RF - but remains fine with IR. Occasionally, turning off the tuner will get RF working again for a while, but then the tuner no longer responds to either of the 2 RF programs I am using.

Is the Philips 6500 somehow stripping out something? I would blame the Polk, but the IR always works fine - ????

Using the IR emitter placement I outlined for you in an earlier reply I've had flawless performance via the RFX6000 and RFX6500. Same goes for the RFX9400 I'm currently using. Have you experimented with the placement of your RF extender and external antenna? Optimal placement of the extender and antenna will help rule out any performance issues in this regard.

Frank -- Thanks for the reply. As I'm sure you know, tracking down intermittent "bugs" can drive one a bit wild. I have spent a lot of time on this problem and still have to find some common denominator. IR always is perfect, but RF goes from perfect to useless, and I haven't figured out why. Note that the change happens without any other changes, RF is working - then it isn't - or it may be a bit. When RF isn't working, I may get the first or last digit of the station ID -- or perhaps no response at all. Turning the XRT12 off and back on sometimes fixes the problem -- and sometimes doesen't. I am aware of the reported issues the Polk has when left on for long periods, but that doesn't seem to be the problem here. There is an upgrade to the firmware for the Polk that may help, but getting it may also be problematic. I shall try moving the 6500 and see of that helps!
