I have found some hex codes for Hitachi televisions. I understand that this is the code that can be input straight into PENG, right? I need other Hitachi codes for a new television that is not in the forum database. I have "IR code listing" for the correct TV from Hitachi but these codes are 8 digit. example: Discrete power on is "50AF 3EC1". How do I convert these to hex? Can it be done? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks GT

You dont need to convert. I just did a Hitachi a few weeks ago and if I remember correctly, when I learned in the toggle power it gave me a code that started w/ 9001 (or something similer) instead of the normal 0000 for raw data. Copy/paste that code to as many buttons as you need and then edit the last 4 digits (3EC1) of each button to the corrosponding code that you need, re-lable, ... like magic.

I never saw the end result of my doing this because the remote was for a friend out of state but 3 weeks later and no WTF calls... no news is good news, right. Accually, from everything I've learned and understand from the IR experts like John and others, I would think this will work just fine.

The Pronto Hex (that you can paste into PENG) for that command is:
900A 006D 0000 0001 50AF 3EC1

For other commands, keep the first four parts of the above and replace the last two parts with the eight digit code from Hitachi's IR code listing.

Some very old Pronto models don't support this method, but since you're using PENG, I deduce your Pronto model is new enough that this method works.

Thanks Guys! I had just figured out that the last two groups of 4 digits are actually the command. I guess the first four groups are "standard" for this TV because I got the same result in PENG as the string you gave, johnsfine. Does this mean that the first four groups of the IR code will always be the same for each Device? Thanks for the help!! In an effort to give back should I post the Hitachi code list I have? GT

for this TV

For THIS TV the first five groups are standard and only the last group of 4 digits actually varies.

There are other devices using this same first four groups, where both of the last two groups vary.

There are even some devices where some commands use this same first four groups and other commands don't (not to be confused with the more common situation in which clean learns get condensed to this form and dirty learns stay in the uncondensed form).

Of course most devices don't use this condensed form at all.

Does this
mean that the first four groups of the IR code
will always be the same for each Device?

Depending on what you're assuming within that question, the answer may be "No" because of a few obscure examples, or more generally "No". But anyway, it's not "yes".
