Are the channel, mute, and volume buttons on the 3000 supposed to illuminate? Mine don't.

Yes, some remotes are more "dim" than others.

Actually mine don't illuminate at all. I'm looking at them in pitch dark and nada.

The batteries need to be quite full.
At least on my 950. ;-)

Your hard key membrane must be deffective (it goes under the hard keys hold the contacts and lights on). You can replace it in a philips service I wonder.

You recognize that you must press the light button on the left side for the keys to illuminate? They don't automatically illuminate when the screen lights up. That being said, I guess that might depend upon what firmware you have?

Yes even when pressing the light button on the side they still don't light up. Oh well....no big deal.

What can it be if the side button doesn't light the hard buttons up? I can not get my hard buttons to light up for anything.

You might want to check the settings page and look to see how much tome you have set for the backlight to stay on!
I usually set the backlight for 60seconds or more.
