I would like to see the component manufacturer section have a date sort as is available for the complete ccf files. For example, Sony has more than 300 ccf files listed. It's hard to know when something new and potentially interesting comes along

I second trying to have individual device files that are not part of a system CCF- trying to delete and merge always seems to screw something up for me.

Harlon - there is a page jump... the numbers at the top of the screen seem to link to those pages, in both alphabetical and date order...

Well that's a big DUH!!! As many times as I have looked at that page I never notice those numbers. Thanks for the info. Now I'll go crawl under a rock.

I would like to add my voice to the desire to have ccf files for each device that are _just_ that device. While it isn't a huge deal, when you're trying to add support for a specific device, having to wade through a number of other devices in the ccf can be time consuming and frustrating.

Taking people's ccfs, decompiling them, and pulling out the device specific panels would be impossible for Daniel. If somebody has 2 VCR devices, how would he or a program know which was for what device? Some people have multiple panels in one device that cover various models and devices (activity-based), the combinations are endless. What a few of you are asking is that each person break their own ccfs up by device type before they submit to RC. This is the only way these requests would be fulfilled. It will be up to the community to handle this, not Daniel. He appears busy enough just handling the downloads and putting the ccf links into the correct devices' listings, whether manually or programatically. Not to mention the other remote forum and DVD forum support that he performs.

I agree with you Cary that this may be too much work for Daniel. However, I still think it is a great idea.
If the community would like a device area then each of us must be willing to do our part. From what I have seen from participants of this forum I don't think that your concerns will be an issue.

What might be more appropriate is to set up some simple guidelines for contributing CCFs for devices.
Such as:
- single device per CCF
- remove anything else from the CCF
- etc
CCFs that meet the guidelines would be put in the devices area, otherwise in the complete systems area.

While not a Files Area request, something I would like to see is:

When starting a new thread, there should be some text above the data entry fields asking the person
- whether they have checked the FAQ first
- whether they have searched the forum first
with links to both. This text should be prominent enough so that it cannot be missed.

A lot of people new to the site are not aware of the FAQ and searching capability - there is so much on the site and anything is easy to miss.

I agree with the single device CCF files. I also agree that we need to rate each for the value provided. I have had more than one device provided from the files which either needed some additional work on the graphics or the codes. Don't get me wrong, I have yet to look at a single CCF and not found something useful that I would like included in my system.
The first item has bothered me so much that I am currently extracting all of my devices, placing ALL functions on panels (no entries in the hardbuttons), and verifying that they contain all codes from the supplied remote. I am also verifying that there are no alias', even though this does take up some additional room. I will include a readme file indicating which buttons are shared.
So the only thing I would like to see from Daniel is the above suggested rating option for each device file.

I would like to see discrete code listings being ported over from discussion areas to the DISCRETE section more often. It seems that there is a LOT of discrete code discussion in the forum, but the discrete section of the site never seems to have the info discussed or posted in the forum.

I don't know how much of this Daniel already does- but I think Discretes are one of the most important Pronto issues, and the discrete section should reflect EVERYTHING that is known!

I wouldn't mind seeing what CCF's look like in the file section before downloading them - there are screen shots of the games that are helpful in deciding whether or not to download. A similar feature might make it easier to decide which of a variety of CCF's for a given component would be a better download for me (or whoever is looking, obviously).

I would also like to see a single device CCF area. I have found bits and pieces and it would sure be convenient to search on a specific device CCF.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to compile a compatibility list. Any components that don't work well with the pronto could be listed, so anyone planning on buying a pronto or pronto users planning on adding to their HT could check to make sure everything will pan out smoothly.

I've been playing around with the IR Database to try and add my own devices and buttons, but to be honest my Access skills leave a lot to be desired. I would like to see an article written by someone with a bit of Access knowledge to explain how to customise the IR Database with other devices. Apart from that, I think the site is great. Keep up the good work fella's.
