As usual, I keep trying to improve things. Now, when you reply to a message there'll be some text pre-entered into the message box stating what you're replying to.

As always, if you have any suggestions please let me know...

two requests:

a) could you make the title different for the page with the thread list (list.cgi) so that I can distinguish it in the browser's 'back arrow' popup?

b) I'd love to be able to see more than one message on a page (maybe even the whole thread? or the last five msgs?)... it's kinda painful having to load a new page (with all those wizzy graphics...) for every message I want to look at...

a) Sure. Done.

b) I'd like to do that too, but I'd have to re-write the whole message script for that. Basically, I took a pre-done one and over the last month or so have customized it as much as I can. It's hard though, since I have to learn Perl in the process.

I can however offer you the ability to have the message you're replying to quoted in the text entry box (indented with > at the beginning of a paragraph).

I agree with "a helpful person" about seeing more the one message on a page. A good example will be
the forum of www.dvdresource.com.

I agree that's a nice system, but I don't really want to switch to a new program right now. It took a heck of a long time just to get this one going.

As much as I've customized the current program, it's still limited to the base code which doesn't lend itself to displaying all messages or even multiple messages at once. It just won't work - it has to do with the way it stores the messages and retrieves them. On the opposite side of displaying messages all at once, I wish it had deeper threads.

The best I can do is make the current one as useable as possible. I'd like to hear any opinions on quoting the original text... it would be simular to a newsgroup posting, and I'd remote that "you're are replying to:" text below.

Since the graphics only have to be downloaded once they really don't have a big effect on display time. Most of the speed problem is in the fact that the server is way overworked and way underpowered - it serves a heck of a lot of domains & other people and it's only a P133. I'm trying to see if we can improve performance.

Well, as it mentions at the bottom of the thread listing page, it appears for 24 hours after a thread has been added to. On this page, messages, it appears if the message is less than 24 hours old.
