Hi all,

My 10yr old WinXP computer bit the dust (only kept it around for the serial port anyways). I bought a Plugable USB Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303 HD Rev D chip) for my "newer" computer that didn't have a serial port hoping that I could get ProntoEdit working again. I installed ProntoEdit v4 on my Windows 10 machine and managed to update my CCF file. However when I plug in my RU-890 and try to "Upload from RC Device" I get a "RC Device not connected or not responding" - when I click on Details to see a list of available COM ports, it just shows a blank box. I've checked my Device Manager and the USB to Serial is properly installed and showing COM3 - but ProntoEdit doesn't seem to see the COM ports in Windows 10. Has anyone gotten ProntoEdit to work properly in Windows 10 with a USB to Serial Adapter?

Thanks.

Assuming permissions are correct, see FAQ B3-06 here.

I had a similar problem with my Win10 PC. I had to revert to an older Prolific device driver in order for the device to be recognized. Apparently there are some cloned prolific chip sets that don't always work with the Win10 drivers. I also was not able to use all features of the software such as the emulator or the ability to update IR codes. I set up a VM environment with Win XP to do the editing. Seems to be working.

Hello,

Just got it to work, so this is what I did. In Windows 10 go to uninstall programmes and uninstall the Prolific driver. Go to the Prolific website and download the latest driver for Windows 10, driver installer 1.14.0.
Make sure the adapter is NOT plugged in. Unzip and install the driver. Plug the adapter in, let it install. At this point go to device manager and check it installed ok ie no yellow triangles. Check the driver version is 3.8.1.3. Check the COM number. Go to port settings, advanced, then change to COM 1. Then you must restart your computer. Plug your old serial cable into the adapter, plug your Pronto in. Open Pronto Edit 4, tap your screen, press the upload icon in Pronto Edit 4 and you should communicate with the Pronto and upload the CCF to Pronto Edit 4. Hope it works for you. My adapter is a UGreen USB to RS-232 DB9 adapter, available from amazon.com or amazon.uk it has a Prolific PL2303 chipset. Must go I'm watching the Olympics!
