I should have asked this along with my last question.

A client has an RC5200 that he's been using for years. The latest changes were more than a year ago when he switched from an old Panasonic satellite receiver to a DirecTV unit. The H21, I think. And it worked great for six months or more.

Then, one day, his remote reverted. I had already had suspicions that this remote had some problems so I had left a second one with him. the day his first one reverted, he picked up the second one to use it and that one reverted, too. I went there, reloaded both remotes, and left. A few weeks later they both reverted.

He's locked out of the control functions. If something goes wrong, he only can push regular buttons that have been on the screen for months, but now two remotes have reverted. Twice.

Any ideas?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The only reasons I've seen are (in order):

1) Dropping it. The original Prontos really hate to be dropped, even softly.
2) Power problems (bad/weak battery). The original Prontos really hate power problems, which is the main reason behind #1.
3) Failing memory. It's happened.

I seem to recall that sometimes a bad CCF file can cause the remote to reboot, but I don't recall that going hand-in-hand with reverting, which happens because the Pronto thinks the main CCF is corrupt.

Yeah. Two years ago I dropped a TSU6000 about a foot, not softly, and it ruined my day and my client's week while I got a replacement. Oh, yeah, my profit margin on the job got hurt quite a bit, too.

Simultaneously with two remotes?

Did these problems also occur with the RC5200s?

There was once a problem where an IR code without a name would cause the remote to reboot. For sure, it can cause simulator to reset.

I recall that one - but wasn't that ONLY a problem with the simulator? Certainly didn't cause the file to revert.

Daniel, you are correct. I believe my Marantz 500i, I at least have seen it cause the remote to restart but not revert the file.
