I've got a client with two Marantz RC5200s. One is his original one from about six years ago, the other a replacement that I got for him because of this problem.

Two different times now, the remote has reverted to the original file, and he says it's done so all by itself. On both remotes. On the same day.

While that sounds unlikely, he's not enough of a gearhead to really know if he did something in particular.

This would be solved, though, if someone remembers how to change the file that the remote reverts to -- I could change it to his file, and then if there's a problem, it ifxes itself.

IIRC, the file can't be too large, and, what? Do you name it "default.ccf" or something else, or load it in a special way? I know I've heard of this but can't remember the details.

The file, by the way, is 214 kB.

Thanks in advance!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

214kb is going to be too big. If I recall correctly the size limit was about 64kb compressed.

Edit - I dug up one of my posts [Link: remotecentral.com] - the space may be larger but it's shared with system programs so it's hard to tell exactly what's available (and they never enlarged this area from the original 1mb Pronto despite the increase in memory on later models).
