OK, so I have solved my 'lists" problem with your help from SNL, now I have a wonderful .ccf that I tested in the emulator and I can't wait to use it, now my computer won't find the remote when I connect via the serial cable.

Using: Window's XP, TSU1000 and TSU2000, Serial Cable. Pronto Edit latest Version
and also tried Tonto. My computer only has 1 Serial port titled COM 1

I checked Bios and Port is on, tried different IRQ's and auto.

Went to device manager to Ports to COM1 and tried various settings

Any other voodoo I should try before I cry?????

Thanks in advance,
Dave

PS I have searched forums for answer and tried alot of them, I also have 2 serial
cables and have tried both.

Have you tried rebooting and then unplugging and replugging the serial cable in? My computer doesn't recognise my remote when I reboot unless I unplug/plug my cable after booting....weird I know but does the trick for me!

I have spent over 8 hours trying to get multiple computers to have either Pronto Edit or Tonto recognize the remote when connected to no avail. I even drove 1 hour to purchase the recommeneded serial to USB adapter :(

I have my ccf on cd and was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to load it on to my tsu2000 for me if I were to mail both to them?? I would be happy to pay you for your trouble since I can not seem to load it onto my remote. I have tested the ccf in the emulator and it is working just how I want it, just need to remove current ccf and replace with new ccf.

Any kind souls let me know daverph@consolidated.net

Thanks,

Dave D

Have you checked your system to find out if your serial port is open? If you've got only one port, but there is something on it, PE will not find you. It looks for the first open port. There are some really old posts about this issue (like 3 or 4 years ago) when I was first using the Pronto and having this problem.

I know you have probably tried this since you say you have read a lot of old posts, but did you wake up the Pronto just before upload/download? Simple to miss but it just won't work without doing it!

Joel and Stoobie, thanks for replying. I have tapped the screen and checked the open ports. I am really stummped. I have tried deleting the com port driver in device manager and restarting the computer. I just can not find the magic touch to get either remote seen by any computer I have..it is past frustating.

Any more ideas I will gladly try....Dave D

Deleting the com port is good, but if you have a device that uses it, it will just grab it up on reinstall when you reboot. Again, is the port open? You might try to add another port. I don't recall how to do it, but that's what I did long ago. There are also threads about that.

I also recall that the Belkin seral-to-USB worked for me, and the highly-touted Keyspan did not. Others had the opposite experience, so it's highly dependent on your setup. [You drove 1 hour--in this world of on-line commerce? Man, I thought I was impatient!]

I tried some more this morning. I deleted the com port in device manager and it was re-installed, Com1 and Com 2 are open when i check under the advanced tab, Com 3 and 4 are in use. I then tried under ProntoEdit and Tonto and neither could locate the remote. Pronto Edit say com port open but no rc device.

If you have any kind of auto-sync software running such as PDA software etc, turn it off and try again. Just to be clear, I mean off, not just the fact that nothing is currently connected. It sounds like something has control of Com1 and Com2.

No auto-sync software running on system that I am aware of. I have dissconnected everything I could from the computer and checked in msconfig to see what is running. I can not find anything that would be using com1 and 2.

You don't say what operating system you are using but I found when using Vista, I always have to run Pronto stuff as "Administrator" and in XP (SP2) compatibility. Running as Administrator seems to cure a lot of problems in both XP and Vista.

Worth at try.

Stoobie, Your lead FIXED the problem!!

When Stoobie mentioned Administration I started exploring Windows under XP and Vista and they are both similar in this regard. You need to go to Administrative Tools, then to Services, then to COM + Event System AND COM + System Application. Both are defaulted (at least on my systems) to Manual, they BOTH need to be switched to Automatic and that allows your COM ports to function properly to detect the remote.

Thanks everyone for all their help....

That's spooky, since COM means Component Object Model...is that what the COM of COM Port has always meant, but I thought it meant communication?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,

I have no idea what COM actually stands for, when I was exploring the Administrative tools I saw the above mentioned items switched them to auto and
everything worked fine. That was the only changes I made from when my system
would not detect the remote at all. It is very spooky to me too, I am just happy it worked out okay.

Take Care

COM doesn't stand for anything... it just refers, specifically, to a "serial communications port".

Now LPT, as in LPT1 for a parallel printer port, actually stands for "Line Print Terminal".
