Greetings all. First time I have posted in quite a few years. Anyway, my Pronto Pro has been in storage with the rest of my home theater equipment for the last few years. Finally married and settled down (somewhat), I am getting a lot of it back out and hoping to start using the remote again if possible.

Anyway, I have all the paperwork, along with the software and cable (and USB adapter) for the remote. This is where the problem starts...

After installing the software, I have been trying to plug the cable into the remote, but can not seem to get the laptop to notice the remote at all. I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with XP Professional running on it, but have tried all the USB ports to no avail.

I would imagine there is something here in the forums regarding this very issue and if that is the case, I am sorry for taking up space with this post, but can't seem to find any reason why the remote is not being recognized.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

The Keyspan USB/serial adaptor is the one model that everybody says works all the time. It goes into a USB port, and the TSU6000 cable goes from it to the remote.

Since you can't plug a USB cable into a TSU6000, what have you been trying to plug into it?

Search for Keyspan for much more info on this issue.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks for the heads up. I had seen things written about the Keyspan adaptor and wasn't sure if that is what was causing it not to be recognized or not. I have now order the adaptor and we'll see if that does the trick. I also took the battery to a local Batteries PLus store here in the Charlotte area and they are rebuilding the battery pack for $19.99, which I didn't think was too bad.

Thanks for thanking me, but I really did want to know about this.

Tim,
I may have to hit you up for some help in the near future if I can't find it on these old forums. I have a TSU6000 that came with the house we bought. We've been in the house a couple years now and I guess I just feel like tinkering with this thing. Did the Keyspan adapter do the trick? I just ordered my serial cable tonight and already have the software on my laptop.

Thanks.

Keyspan is the one that works most reliably. If you have a desktop machine, you can add a COM port to a PCI slot. The key is making sure that ALL COM ports up to the one where you plug in in the remote are in use. If remote is on COM3, COM1 and COM2 must be in use.

srb,
you'll find help here for sure. Be sure to find the Pronto FAQs here on the site.

Yes thanks. I have just finished going through all the FAQ's. I don't know how many people read this forum but if there are, I'm really nervous about messing with this remote as it is currently working fine. I just want to add Direct TV to it and a light control. I feel like if I upload my config and then tinker with that maybe I'll be safe. I welcome all suggestions. I'm pretty good with a PC but I am worried.

Thanks,

By all means, upload your configuration and store it. Then store it again with a different name -- I often put a 1 at the end of the first one, then store the first several changes with a 2 at the end, etc. Every ten or twelve changes, if paranoid, save again with a new revision number. This way you can always go back if you need to.

There's a software flaw with a related product, the Marantz RC5200, where the program crashes if you modify a macro and add a time delay. Time delays are inserted at the end of the list, and sometimes when you scoot it up to the top, the editor crashes. THAT is when you want to have recently saved your work for sure!
