For some reason I can't see symbles (such as the sideway triangle for Play and etc.) in the Name field and all these common symbles are blanks when I am trying to create aliases. Am I missing something in my computer? Please help. Thanks.

You must reboot after installing the software for some versions of windows to register the Pronto.TTF font.

I may have this wrong, it has been a while, but isn't there also a problem that the symbols aren't available in all font sizes.

Symbols are not available in the 8 point font, and I believe, the 12 point font. There may be something about this in the FAQ.

It used to be that only fonts 8, 12, and 16 were available in Pronto (and the software) unless you enabled "developer mode", which enabled font sizes 10, 14, and 16. Now PE comes with developer mode already enabled. But, symbols aren't supported in the "new" enabled fonts. So:

8, 12, 16 - have symbols
10, 14, 18 - no symbols

As an aside, symbols are available for all font sizes in the Marantz versions of the Legacy remotes.

Jim, I think it was added in PE because some Prontos have them while others don't (1000=no, 6000=yes, 2000 can't remember)

definitely sounds like the reboot issue because he is talking PE and not Pronto or emulator

Reboot didn't do the trick. I can see all the symbles on the emulator and in the panel but they are all blanks when I go into Name in the panel property screen. Also, when I try to setup an alias, all the buttons with symbles are blank as well.

I've check my system files and Pronto.ttf is one of the available fonts. However, when I open it up with the Windows Font Viewer, all I see are the letters in the different font sizes but no symbles. Is that how you guys have it too? Or should I be able to see the symbles in the font file?

Thanks in advance for all the help. This is a pest of a problem because I can't create aliases without seeing which botton I am linking it to.

Anthony,

That explains it, I only owned a 1000 before I went to a Marantz.

mxy15,

You have to reboot immediately after installation. So try this. Uninstall PE, reinstall, then reboot before opening the program.

what version of PE, windows and browser? there used to be some issues with IE 5.0 and 5.5 and earlier versions of PE. You did reboot the PC and not the remote :)

Uninstall didn't do the trick. I have the latest ProntoEdit 4 as downloaded from this website. I have Windows XP Home and Pro and the same problem on both computers. This is killing me.

Ensure you install the software using a user account with Administrator rights. From the control panel, open User Accounts and ensure that the account type you are using is an Administrator Account.

Also, you did not tell us what version of Internet Explorer you are running or which XP Service pack (1 or 2).

The reason we ask this is that there is a file: \windows\system32\comctl32.dll that is used to display the symbols. There have been problems in the past with older versions of this file that broke the whole symbol display.

an other test, do either A or B

A) Open word, click on insert, symbol and then choose the Pronto font, see if it works there and if you can insert them on the page

B) open character map and pick Pronto font and see if you see the characters correctly in there
