There is no line break in a Pronto Hex string. It is one long line.

Your Browser displays one or more line breaks because the string is too long to fit without line breaks. But your browser knows the line breaks are not really there.

If you highlight and copy as Bruno suggested you get the string onto the Windows clipboard without adding any line breaks.

But if you move it through a program such as word, it will probably turn the displayed line breaks into real line breaks. Then the Pronto Hex is no longer valid.

Well, I followed the suggestion of pasting directly from the browser, and was able to copy the code onto a button. However, the suggested change doesn't work. Before, when I would hold the button, the display would go through four levels of brightness before turning off. Now, there is only one level of brightness (the highest), but I still have to hold down the button to turn off the preamp. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all your help.

Did you read all of post 13 above?

The code I gave you was not an extended version of the original. It was a non toggling version of the original. That means it isn't supposed to work right when you press it twice in a row. Maybe that's what you mean by "only one level".

It is supposed to be used just as the source of multiple aliasing in a sequence to create the extended signal.

I think I understand. When I get home tonight, I'll reprogram the button and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for being patient with me; I would never have gotten into any of this except for the fact that the new TV which I had purchased did not provide a means of direct access to the inputs. (Because my surround processor only has composite and S inputs, I was unable to switch HDMI or component video through it). I was able to find a post on this site which contained those codes, so that both video and audio would switch together, and one thing led to another. If this works, I will have succeeded in fully automating everything in my system--which means maybe my wife won't feel so intimidated about using it.

I'll let you know if this fix does the trick.

This time I followed your instructions more carefully, and your modification worked! I now have a "power off" macro which turns off my entire system, which was the last step in my attempt to automate my entire a/v system. Thanks very much for your help!
