hi own several TSU 1000 and TSU 2000 units. i have read many comments regarding the stability and difficulty in programing the TSU 3000 and 7000 units.

Can anyone tell me which unit i should buy for my home entertainment system. Do I have to start from scratch to reprogram or can I take a TSU 2000 and upgrade? Are the new units usb cable connected for programming?
Thank you.

Probably questions that are better asked in the NG forum. But, your ccfs can be converted, by the NG software, for use in a 3000/7000. If I remember correctly, since the programmable screen size is larger in a 3000/7000, your pages won't fill up the entire area. Of course, a 7000 is color. While your can convert a 1000/2000 ccf by assigning colors, it doesn't come out looking very good. With the 7000, you'd get a more attractive result by starting from scratch.

If I understand your question about the cable correctly, it's still better to learn codes on the remote and then upload to the computer, rather than learn while attached to the computer.

New NG remotes use USB. Older TSU1000/2000 use an RS-232 connection. Please see the FAQ about Keyspan USB-to-Serial adapters.

if you have the money go with the 7000, the colour screen looks good compared to 16 shades on the 3000 or 4 shades in the 1000/2000, the 7000 has a much better screen even when compared to the 6000 that had 256 colours.

Also like it was said above you can import your CCF, but the only thing of value are the IR codes, and that is true even for the 3000.

1) more shades, be it true colour for the 7000 or 16 for the 3000 so why would you want the same icons?

2) more space: you can now edit 100% of the screen if you want

3) more hard buttons (so you can move some stuff off the screen)

4) invisible area in buttons
--------------------

this is what I did when I went to the 7000.

1) import CCF --- working Pronto in minutes

2) create a nicer icon for each button ( more or less, same size and shape)

3) replace icons (read the NG FAQ on PCF/ZIP)

4) move some buttons and functions to hard keys
