Am getting a "RC device not connected or not responding" message. Have checked the connections and the Com hardware via Windows but no luck. Any idea?

Thanks,

Assuming you're not using a USB to serial adaptor, try tapping the screen just prior to starting communication. This "wakes up" the remote.

I got this on two separate remotes, and it happened the same day! Turned out that something had gone wrong on the system board.

Another thing that can happen, at least the Marantz version of these guys, is that the jack can partially break off of the board. If this happens, the cable plug will feel a bit loose compared to the way it was before.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
