I noticed, while exploring this site, that someone is offering a downloadable firmware upgrade for the TSU2000. However, they offered no explanation as to what the upgrade does, or how it would affect my present configuration. Considering how much time I've spent getting over the mind boggling learning curve of programming this beast, I hesitate to do anything that would undo any of that. I'm pretty satisfied with things as they are, but you know....I'm always open to making my life a living hell by downloading an unknown upgrade and seeing what happens. Can anyone advise me on this?

Of coarse, since this website is almost impossible to navagate, could you also steer me back to the upgrade site? Without help, I'm pretty sure that I'd die before I found it again.

Um, actually I think the site is pretty easy to navigate. There's a lot of information, I honestly don't know how I could make it easier to find.

So, to begin pick your main topic from the control at the top of the screen: Home, Reviews, Features, Forums, Files, Search, Contact.

You want a file. And since you're looking for a TSU2000 file, click on the file area for that remote (it's the first choice). Now scroll down to "Original PC Software". Pick "Philips Pronto Series". Then you'll want to download the latest version of ProntoEdit - the first file shown. The firmware is upgraded from within the program.

If you already have ProntoEdit v4.0.5, you already have the most recent firmware available on your PC, just load it up and go to Tools -> Update Firmware. Make sure you already have a copy of your CCF file somewhere on your computer for backup.

See? Not that hard...

You could have posted a link to the file on a silver platter.

Well, OK... I do aim to please:

When upgrading you should be able to maintain your current configuration on the remote, but as I mentioned always keep a backup on your PC in case it's lost during the upgrade.

Also, depending on how old your remote is it may already have the latest firmware (it's been a while since it was last upgraded).

Thanks for the info, Daniel. I know you think your site is easy to navagate, but that's because it's your site! To the occational visitor who just wants to get some information about their Pronto, it can be rather problematic.

Believe me, I've downloaded a lot of bitmaps, and other information from your site which were very helpfull, so please don't think I'm ungratefull.

One thing that confuses me is this response to my thread inquiry:

" I'm sorry, but our records do not show that any favorite threads have been added to your account.

To add a favorite or monitored thread to the list, view it normally and look for the "Add To Favorites" link near the bottom of the page. Afterwards, you will be able to monitor its activity here."

I've never seen this "Add to Favorites" link at the bottom of the page. Without telling me how stupid I am for not undertanding what this is all about, could you please enlighten me?

Thanks,

Kurt Bennett

Thanks Anthony.

I never thought of looking there. So here's another stupid question...how did you see a question I posted to Daniel?

You can also get the firmware directly from Philips along with instructions on how to upgrade it.

Got to http://www.pronto.philips.com
Click on "Downloads"
Login (or create and account)
Click on "firmware"
Click on "firmware archive"
Choose the firmware for your model

This is Sys. 4.8, App 5.3 release date Aug26, 2002. It is an executable, so I don't believe you need to upgrade prontoedit to use it -- but if you are using an older version of prontoedit, I don't know why you wouldn't want to upgrade it too.

Before you do anything, check the current firmware version on your remote

See the Unofficial Pronto FAQ for details:

I originally thought that the "Reply" links in the individual posts only led back to the originator of that particular post. The "Post a response to this thread" box at the bottom of the page was used to respond to everyone. I now realize that all those "Reply" links just lead back to bottom of the thread page.

That's why they call it a thread. Just like a chain letter except that everyone can read it.

I must agree with your assessment. I find it terribly easy to navigate the site, but at first I was puzzled quite often. I am just glad that you did not REALLY let fly in what you thought was a private response to Daniel!

However, your quite amusing, self-deprecating sense of humor is obvious from almost the beginning of your first post, so if you did let fly, you would probably only cause many more chuckles than you first thought possible.

In my career haunting the internet, I have probably sent two dozen emails to webmasters telling them to try, just try, to imagine being new to their site, and try to look for (then I give a topic that took me forever to find). You at least got a response from Daniel. All I have every gotten is an automated non-response.

Hey, Daniel, what if you update the firmware and it turns out that the update is an older version than what is in the remote? I just ran across a TS1006 (see thread with that name) and, if I had not been looking carefully, I would have done just that.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
