OK - progress - of sorts!

I have got the hang of entering these codes.

The OFF discrete code works fine.
The ON discrete exhibits the same atribute as the OEM remote ON/OFF button in that it has to be held down for a second or so for the red LED on the TV to go green.
I thought I'd cracked it by adding more of the ON codes in succcession. But it turned out to be hit and miss - even with 6 entries of the same code it wasn't transmitting long enough to do the trick. I've not tried it with 0.1 sec in between each though. It seems as though I'm back to square one - how do I get the remote to have the effect of holding down the key for 2 seconds?

No, we're only just starting, you now need to try the extended code that Lyndel posted earlier, it's based on the Standard Power On discrete but effectively 'doubled', I'll repost it here:
try this one and let us know.

0000 0070 0000 0064 0081 0040 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AC3 0081 0040 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AC3

For future reference, you can have a look at the Discrete Infrared Hex Codes from this page.

If you put any delay at all in there, the device will expect to see the code from the beginning and you'll lose all cumulative repetitive effect.

I ran into this years ago with a Pronto and a JVC projector.

Someone here said to do this:
Learn the command and name this ON A
Next, learn a different part of the command this way, and practice first:
*put your hand in front of the projector remote.
*start the LEARN with the Pronto
*push and hold the power button on the remote
*after about 1/4 second, remove your hand and let the Pronto learn what's coming out of the remote. Name this one ON B.

Make a macro of ON A followed by several ON Bs. Put no delays in between. With the JVC projector, it took eleven Bs to have a bulletproof command.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Make the first 4 sets of numbers be 0000 0070 0064 0000. this makes the data that makitakarm supplied be one-shot so that it is transmitted fully within a macro. note that you can double the data and 0064 becomes 00c8.
