There is a simple way to control Bose Lifestyle systems(old and new) with learning IR remotes like the Pronto. If anyone is interested in hearing the 'story', please E-mail me directly. Dave dbanks@audioauthroity.com

I got the solution that David Banks provides, and it works great. It is called the CM-2.
I CAN control my Bose LifeStyle 12 with my Pronto Pro!
:)
Just thought everyone should know!

i am trying to learn the bose codes on my kameleon remote control but i can not do it... i put my kameleon in front of the unit and i follow the steps but i have not luck.... do you have any tips???? On 10/28/01 06:14 ET, DJ2 said...
Daniel,
Let me be the one to answer this question with complete accuracy. You are correct, all previous versions of the Bose Lifestyle systems, including the Lifestyle 50, 40, 30, 25, 20, 12, 8, 5, 3 and all previous versions of the Bose custom installed “BUILT-INvisible” line all use RF to communicate with the Music Center. Other remotes that use RF will not be able to control these systems because these “RF remotes” use RF to communicate with their own proprietary base units, these base units then convert this RF signal back into standard IR commands. Modifying a Pronto or other device with an RF modulator will also not work.
I can confirm for you that all NEW Bose Home Theater systems, including the Lifestyle 35 & 28, the Bose 3-2-1 home entertainment systems and the new BUILT-INvisible Home Theater products have the ability to be controlled via IR.
Here's how each system works: The new Bose 3-2-1 Home Entertainment system uses a standard IR-based remote that can be taught to any “learning” remote.
The Bose Lifestyle 35 & 28 use an "RF" remote to communicate with the new DVD-based Media Center, when the Media Center receives a command from it’s remote for a programmed TV, VCR (incl. TiVo & Replay) or SAT/Cable box, the Media Center will send out a VERY strong IR blast from the front of the Media Center. This IR blast is strong enough to bounce off adjacent walls and control components that are even located on the same bookcase, without direct line of sight. If some of these components are hidden away in a cabinet, the user can connect the included IR-emitter from the Media Center to these components. One other note worthy feature that is not available on any other complete home theater system is a “TV sensor”(included) that will act as a gatekeeper for IR commands. If the TV is already powered ON and you select the “TV” or “DVD” button on the remote, it will block the “TV power ON” command from being sent to keeping the system in-sync. (this means absolute reliable operation) The Lifestyle 35 & 28 also has the ability to be controlled by an IR remote, by simply enabling this feature from the on-screen menu. Since the remote control does not output the IR signals you will need to hold the learning remote up to the front of the Media Center’s display then press the desired button on the RF remote. This will tell the Media Center to output the appropriate IR command to be learned by the learning remote..
The brand new Bose BUILT-INvisible home theater systems (TS-600, 400 & 200) also have the ability to be controlled via standard Bose RF remotes or programmable/learning IR remotes, but must be designed and installed by an authorized Bose custom dealer.
I hope this has helped add clarity to this dilemma.

Why have you posted the same question twice in the same thread, especially since: 1. You have a kameleon (which is a OneForAll or Radio Shack) and not a Pronto 2. You have already posted in the Sony and Sony Tech forums 3. Posting the same question six (6) times is not a good way to get replies

This question comes up again and again. The Bose Lifestyle systems use 27.145MHz (also used by miniature RC cars) RF (Radio Frequency). I know of no off-the-shelf RF transmitter module for this frequency. BlueDo sells an IR2RF converter for Bose and they provide a CCF with the Bose codes. It is probably possible to convert it to an RF2RF converter using either a 418MHz (N. America) or 433.92MHz (Europe) RF receiver module in place of its IR receiver module. The RF receiver output is active high while an IR receiver output is usually active low so you may need to invert the signal (or bypass the inverter in the IR2RF converter).

Until we know which Bose Lifestyle he has, we can't really answer his question.
If he has the LS28/35, then he doesn't need anything except the correct procedures.
If he has most other LS models, he can use the converter, but there are some which don't work with the converter.
I have already asked him in the Sony Forum which he has, and am waiting for a reply, but your reply provides information I wasn't aware of.

Ron, What's your connection with the converter? The manual for the C-1024 indicates it works with a wider range of models. [Link: bluedo.com]

Exactly the same one as yours, Dave, but it says this on the first page of the link:
Works with Lifestyle 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 systems. It will not work with Lifestyle 12 or any other systems!
That's why I said we need to know his system. As I said, if he has the LS28/35, he won't need the converter, and if he has a system not listed for the converter, the converter won't help him.
I am just a little bit annoyed with this guy. I know he is a newbie, but he posted the same question in two different threads in three different forums, for a total of six postings, none of which was the correct forum for his kameleon. So if he is dumb enough to post like that, he probably won't understand any of this unless we give him directions for his specific system.

I would like to know if you can control a Bose Lifestyle system with a Pronto RU950. Tried emailing you but the address did not work. This is for the Lifestyle 12 and I was trying to contact dbanks but get a delivery failure.

I also tried to contact David Banks with no success. His posts were made in Jan of 2002, so I don't even know if he still logs into this forum any more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a question you should call and ask Bose Tech Support [Link: bose.com].

Does anyone know if there are any problems involved in operating a Bose 3-2-1 using RC9200 in RF mode?
