Two days ago I received my Pronto and am very happy with this gem. I do have two questions:

I created a device called Power that appears in the device menu and the home screen. I would like to be able to press this button on the home screen, have all my equipment turn on and then one of two things happen. Either I am left on the home screen or I am taken to the first control screen for my DISH system (assuming that the majority of the time that is where people are heading). I have the part of the macro that powers up everthing working great but I end up at a blank screen that is labeled Power. The pronto assumes that Power is a device and takes me to its device control screen. Is there any way to do this, possibly with software? I put a goto statement (goto Dish) at the end of this macro, as described in the manual, but that does not work.

Second, I have a ten year old Magnavox VCR and so far have been unsucessful at getting the Pronto to learn anything from its remote. I have a Denon 3200 receiver that came with a learning remote and it had no problem learning the Maganvox remote. Any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
The only way I know to have the "power" device work the way you want is to set up the exact same macro on the macro screen called "power." Including the "goto" step at the end of that macro will ensure Pronto goes to the desired "standard" page.

I have no clue about the Magnavox VCR. However, you could use this as an excuse to upgrade your VCR to a Super-VHS (Honey, this VCR is sooo old, the IR command language won't interface with the Pronto....I guess we will just have to buy a new VCR....)

Good luck!

hey dave, Ijustgot my pronto yesteday and i have been trying to figure out a good power on solution. your way sounds good. i think you also could use one of the outside hard buttons to do a power up/dwn sequence and have the dss power last. it works on my other remote.

I also have some questions, maybe jack could respond. Is there any way to make any button an action key that sends me to a different screen. ie. I would like to have my dss controls and on the same screen have a button that reads "pip functions" and be able to press that "pip" button and be taken to a pip control screen.

Can any button be a macro, or only the outside hard buttons and the actual seperate macro screen buttons?

Can you copy a button from one template to another, or are we forced to use only the standard button sizes for each template.

The best way I can think of is to place a jump to statement at the end of the macro. This can force a jump to any menu. As far as any buttons being a macro, I think this can only be done via the soon to release PC software. This is to say that I don't think it can be done with the onscreen software and KNOW it CAN be done with the PC software. As stated in previous posts, make the basics work now, do the fancy and intricate once you have the software, knowing that you can move, copy etc within the platform.

PS. to last message:

Std buttons? You could stick with those if you choose to although with the software, you'll be able to import ANY bitmap that you choose. Like ABC, NBC, FOX, PHILIPS logo....it is left to your imagination.....anyone for a picture of their favorite ??? as a button....no problem.

Jack, I'm interested in a good wheelchair-type logo that will take people to the "special user" menu.

I'm sorry...that's awful. A question mark is probably a better idea.

Ref the Pronto not learning your VCR's codes: I too had a problem with it learning my DVD player's commands while another remote I have learned this device just fine. Strange? After a frustrating evening of experimentation I discovered that I had the two remotes too close together during the "teaching". Although the Pronto learned all the rest of my stuff with the remotes 4" apart, I had to hold this one about 2 feet away to get it to work. Give it a try.
