My dealer said he would not be getting any Prontos until after the first of the year. So he said if you can get one, go for it. So I got one from Jack.

If they allowed templates on the "Macro Groups" or Macros on the device templates you'd hardly even need the PC software. IMHO you can't quite set it up completely for "Activities" with out one or the other. You can get reasonable close.

Some of these Pros and Cons are with respect to comparing it with IRIQ.

Pros:

Works on all my devices (Pioneer DVL-700, Sony TV, Meridian 561, Rotel Tuner, Yamaha VCR).
Great range on all my devices.
The software is very well done.
Nice screen size to unit size ratio.
Screen is easier to read.
Screen has better touch sensitivity (this may of been aggravated by the range problem on the IRIQ).
Larger array of "Icons".
Larger Icons.
The two buttons are equally as good as the wheel (maybe even better)
I think it has a slightly larger screen.
Independent lights and timers for screen and buttons.
You can label the 2 general buttons.
Large range of button shapes for easier ID.

Cons:

Little hard to read in well lit room.
Buzzes when light is on.
Lacks a true "activity" mode (software will fix).

George,

You can have the pressing of a device key run a macro that is associated with the device key (without using any software). This is an undocumented feature that Dan describes in his review of the Pronto.

Tom did you get your pronto or did you order it? If you received it, when did you order it?

Scott,

I know about the Macro when selecting the device.
Fine for initial setup but not usefull if you need another macro for something else once your on the device. Like for example to undo what the "device" assigned macro did when your done.

George,

The software supports macros under any key, anywhere. I think this will solve your problem once the software is released.

I was clear to to say that in my summary.

Last line:

"Lacks a true "activity" mode (software will fix)"

I did not even say maybe fix but will fix.

And my point was if they had allowed that (apparently simple feature) within the first "embedded software" release then it would of been FULLY (functionally) cusomizable without even using the PC software.

The PC software sounds like it adds this one key feature for some of us and everything else is a lot of icing on the cake.
