I'm having trouble getting the Pronto to power on/off my Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player.

I've been able to control every other component function but this. The Pronto appears to learn the code, but the DVD player will not respond. I first programmed the Pronto from my RC2000 mk1 but I have also tried programming from the original Sony remote with no success.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I also have a DVP-S7000 and am considering strongly buying a Pronto

I would like to hear a solution to this problem before i buy though ( still not a major issue)

I have never found another controller other than the horrible Sony LCD to work my unit well either!!!!!

Erik,

I assume that the Pronto has learned all other commands for your Sony DVD? I also assume that the RC2000 operated all the commands including power? If the above are both true, it is a difficult question as to why the Pronto won't execute correctly.

Jack,

Yes, that's what makes it so strange, the Pronto is able to control every other function as well as all my other components. The RC2000 had no problems including controlling the power.

I suppose a possible workaround to turn the unit on would be to use either the disc eject or play buttons (both commands turn the unit on if it is powered off). Not sure how I'll turn it off though. If anyone finds a solution *please* let me know, lest I have to actually get up out of the chair ;)

I have an S7000, and I didn't have a problem with the power on/off function with either the RC2000 or the Pronto.

Have you tried NOT holding down the power button on the original remote when programming the Pronto? Simply press it for a split second. That's how I programmed mine.

I'll double-check tonight, but I'm sure that's it works for me without a problem.

Ditto here -

Have an Sony S7000 DVD and have no problems with
the on/off and the Pronto.

Sounds like a momentary press just might do the trick. Probably a timing issue in that the Pronto is sending multiple events within the window that your unit is looking for so your unit just stares off in space waiting for a slower conversation.
Try the momentary and post your results.

I am glad to say that the Pronto is now able to power on/off my S7000 DVD. Thanks everyone for your help.

I tried re-learning with a momentary press to no avail. I also tried deleting and recreating the on/off buttons. The fix was to delete the DVD template I was using and create a new one.

While this is somewhat strange behavior, having to use a brute force method of deleting the entire template, I can honestly say that the Pronto is by far the best remote I have used and a welcome addition to my home theater. Can't wait for the software!

I have a similar problem but not with sony s7000.
The pronto seem to learn the code to my cable music choice box but would absolutely not control any of its functions. I have tried copying to code to another remote and then to the pronto but no success. I also tried all of the suggestions given above including deleting and recreating template and no success. The pronto controls all my other gears except this piece. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Has any other person experienced this?
