I have been very happy with the OFA URC-10820N for a number of years.  It has been a no-frills, modestly priced learning remote WITH EFC discrete code programming.

Alas it may be in the process of failing ("1" button no longer works).

The model is no longer available.  I wish I had bought some spares and put them in the closet for this day.

I would appreciate any suggestions for a URC-10820N replacement remote that offers the equivalent feature set without breaking the bank.

Thanks!

They don't make 10 device remotes anymore, have you looked at the RCA RCRP05B?

Another great remote at is usually cheap price , is the URC RF10, a 8 in 1 remote that has enough learning memory to teach a command to each key twice. With the help of the UEI remote, you could add any discrete commands to the RF10.

I will check them out. I would like to get an 8 device minimum. I currently have 5 devices so the RCRP05B would be maxed out.

Thanks!

The RCRP05B is actually an 8 device remote, but it only has 5 device buttons.  A $8 cable will allow you to use the JP1 RMIR software to get access to all 8 devices.  Or if you get the URC remote edmund is talking about, the JP1 cable will allow you to program any IR signal into the RCRP05B, and then teach it to the URC.

There is also the Niles R-L8 remote, has the same body as the RCRP05B, but actually has 8 true devices, just not name:
