I've been trying to follow the steps in an earlier thread that discussed this problem: [Link: remotecentral.com]

In post number six, the following instructions were provided:

Try these instructions...

1) Press DVD
2) Press and hold SETUP, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Press (don't hold) SETUP
5) Type 082 or 00082 (see note below)
6) Press OK/SELECT, 2 flashes

Note: I don't know if your Atlas uses 3 or 5 digit "advanced codes" so you'll need to figure out whether it accepts 082 or 00082

In a later post, it was suggested that the code associated with the ok/select key for LG TVs is 164 (or 00164). I've tried these steps, but no matter what, after step #3, the second key I press will cause the tv key to flash twice, then that's it (e.g., select then 1, select then 0, or any two number keys).

Is there something different about the specific Atlas remote I have, or is there maybe something I've missed?

My TV is an LG 42LD630, and I find I can use most basic functions of the TV with remote codes 1423 and/or 1993.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I found the answer elsewhere - the issue is because the remotes, when programmed with channel lock for the cable device, force the select key to point to the cable box. After I followed the steps in the manual to unlock the channel control, it works great. I also found I can control my XBox as a second DVD device using the code 1708. :)
