Greetings... I'm new to this forum and desperately looking for some guidance. The original remote for my Samsung Home Theater-in-a-Box HT-SK5 is missing. I purchased a UEI Kameleon 9960 and used a setup code of 1295. It works the power, VOL, CD, DVD, and Aux sources. What I am missing is the setup and menu for the surround speakers. I can't adjust the balance or the bass level for the subwoofer without access to the menu.

I emailed OFA tech support and have received the Advanced codes thast are supposed to work for this system, along with instructions to use the Keymover function (994) to accomplish this task. Well, it just doesn't seem to work and I am at wit's end with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are these the instructions they gave:

1. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
2. press OTHER
3. enter 9-9-4
4. press DEVICE
5. press SETUP for one blink
6. enter advanced code
7. pick a key

Yes, exactly. I have done that with several of the advanced codes but the codes have no apparent effect. At the end of the sequence above, I am getting one long blink, instead of the two quick blinks, and the screen changes to the setup screen again. I was wondering if this is indicating an error or if this is normal?

As far as the Advanced codes given, there are many and more than one have MENU or SETUP. Is there a difference between these, or does it depend on the mode that I am attempting to control in the HT system?
Specifically, I have tried 660 for speaker mode, 406 for Setup, 692 for Surround Mode, 630 for Menu... again all these codes have been copied to buttons on the remote, but nothing is happening on the HT receiver.

If you're using setup code AUD 1295, there's good chance that this is a combo code, which means it doesn't accept advanced codes.

Hmm. That doesn't sound like good news does it? Is there a sure way to find out if this is a combo code and that it won't accept the advanced codes?

I would have thought that the tech support guy from UEI would have known that before he bothered to e-mail the advanced codes to me in the first place.

It is NOT a combo code. It does accept advanced codes.

Even if I hadn't known that fact, the symptoms you describe are not the symptoms you get from a setup code that can't use advanced codes. I think your symptoms mean that you have filled the section of the 9960's memory that is used for KeyMoves and Macros. So you need to delete some KeyMoves or Macros before you can add any more.

For rarely used advanced codes, you may decide to skip making the KeyMove to bind the advanced code to a key, and just use the advanced code directly when you need it.

To use it directly:
1) Do a short press and release of Setup
2) Key in the first 2 digits of the code
3) Aim the remote
4) Press the third digit. Hold the third digit as long as you want the signal sent.

The better solution is to use JP1 so you can have better use of the 9960's limited memory.

Hi Greg,

I think I may know what the issue is for your remote.

URC-9960B00 (Original unit).
URC-9960B01 (New Units - with switch off feature)

If you have the new version, this will require 5 digits for the advanced codes.

Example, if your advance code is 135, you will need to enter it as 00135.

I found this the hard way calling OFA support.

Civichb, thanks for info, the only other remote that takes 5 digit codes is RS 15-2142. My 9960 only takes 3-digit EFC.

My sincere thanks to all who contributed to this thead and to Civichb for the five digit code- that was it. I got more help and a more timely response from this forum than OFA email support. Their replies took 7 days each so I suppose if I was to hang in there another couple of weeks the FIVE digit advanced codes would have been disclosed.
