Hi!

I have the 4041B01 which, for my purposes, is an amazing remote. I am using it to control a SD-6200 DVD player, a Bell ExpressVu 5100 PVR, a large screen Toshiba rear projectionTV and a Toshiba VCR. I can access all of the functions of all of these devices except one. When I click "Zoom" within the DVD mode, the appropriate screen comes up, but there is no way to zoom up or down. I've tried all of the keys (I think) without luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem? I used 0503 to setup the SD-6200.

Thanks!

Roberta

I used 0503 to setup the SD-6200.

You mentioned that other devices were Toshiba, but I don't see mention that the SD-6200 is Toshiba. DVD/0503 is the setup code for Toshiba DVD's and Toshiba has a DVD model SD-6200, so I'll assume it's a Toshiba.

I assume you still have the original remote. What keys on the original remote would you use to zoom up and down? There are several CCF files available for the SD-6200 and each of those has keys learned from the original remote. In many cases those keys are labeled with names that match their labels from the original remote. But in no case are there explanations (like this is the key for up or down in zoom mode). If I knew the Key labels to look for, it would be a lot easier to find the right functions.

In one CCF I noticed functions for + and - which sound like the sort of function names you'd expect for use inside a zoom dialog. But surprisingly the function for - is the same as for Pause. + has EFC number 145.

I don't know much about the 4041. I hope it has EFC (advanced code) support similar to other OFA remotes. If not, then knowing the EFC numbers wouldn't help and you'd be limited to the built in keys.

Many EFC numbers for DVD/0503 are listed on Rob's page at

Wow! Thanks for the speedy reply. Yes, the SD-6200 is a Toshiba DVD player. There is a Zoom button on the remote with "-" and "+" signs on opposite sides of the button.

I'll check Rob's page and see if the 4041 supports EFCs.

Thanks again!

I'm trying to relate those two statements to each other.

IIUC, the original remote has two (not three) functions for zoom. I assume you press zoom+ or zoom- to bring up the screen and press it repeatedly to change the zoom level.

I would have thought the zoom button on the 4041 would act that same way. Are you saying that you press it repeatedly and it doesn't cycle through the zoom levels?

The original remote has three buttons relating to the Zoom functionality: a middle one that brings up the zoom options, along with minus and plus ones that decrease/increase the zoom (I think that there are three levels of zoom).

When I press the Zoom on the URC-4041, it brings up the zoom options, but I can't seem to find the apprpriate buttons to emulate the minus and plus ones from the original. So, in effect, I see the Zoom option on-screen, but can't change it with the 4041. Does that make sense?

OK. I jumped to the wrong conclusion from your statement about "opposite sides of the button".

If the 4041 supports EFC numbers at all, I'm sure it does so in the same way as other OFA remotes:

There is a key that is used with a long press to start programming the remote, such as to assign a setup code (0503) to a device key. That key is labeled Set or Magic or P or various other things on various models.

That same key, but using a short press is used for EFC numbers:

1) Make sure you're in the right device mode (press the DVD key if necessary).

2) Short press of that special key.

3) First two digits of EFC number.

4) Aim the remote at the DVD player.

5) Press and hold the 3'rd digit of the EFC while looking to see what effect it has on the DVD.

You should try the EFC number 145, which I found for plus in one of those CCF files. You might also try some EFC numbers from that page of Rob's I mentioned to see whether they have the functions indicated on that page.

Also try the pause key while the zoom screen is visible, since that CCF said minus and pause are the same command.

I looked at my list for DVD/0503 and I didn't see anything that resembles Zoom In and Zoom Out.

The buttons simply say "-" and "+". I'll try different combos and see what happens.

The word I just got from UEI is that the codes you need are...

145 Zoom In
141 Zoom Out

Funnily enough, these codes match the Thumbs Up / Down codes for the Toshiba DVD/Tivo units.

I was just about to let you know that 141 & 145 work! You beat me to it. I assigned the Last button as the "+" and now I can zoom in on those 2:35 aspect ratio discs.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

By the way, it's not a big deal, but you can't do the "holding the 3rd key to test if it works" trick with the Zoom function. The Zoom display gets cancelled by the programming.

Unless the Zoom simply timed out before you could get the 3-digit code entered, you must have been doing something wrong, because the remote doesn't send any signals while you are entering them, it only starts sending the signal when the final digit is pressed.

I'm sure you're right. Since it's easy to undo the programming, I simply tried a few combos until the 141 & 145 codes worked.

My hubby insists on using the original remotes (all five of them). When I suggested that he try the 4041, he balked, stating that "it can't zoom!". I'll see if I can get a dinner out of this one!
