Having lost the remote control for my ADCOM gtp 500 preamp/tuner, I would like to program some other remote control device. I cannot find codes for the OFA remotes to do that. Can anyone help? I have URC 6885, but willing to purchase other programmable remote to accomplish this, if I could only find the codes. Adcom (the company) was useless in getting the codes, by the way. Thanks

Is ADCOM the same as ADC? If so my URC 6012 found at WalMart has a SETUP code 0531 for ADC under Audio Receivers.

I don't have anything ADCOM, so can't verify if it works. But Walmart has a liberal return policy, so it can't hurt to try one. There is also a URC 6011 out there that is identical, just not sold at WalMart.

ADC is actually what used to be the 70's Audio Dynamics. In the mid-late 80's ADC became a division of BSR/dbx (many of which were lower priced dbx clones, or close). Once BSR sold off dbx, I *think* ADC became a non-entity, or at best just got completely swallowed up by BSR. ADCOM, I believe is a relative newcomer, probably an off-brand supported by some larger mfr. Likely some importer. The ADC codes you found likely are for remote operated ADC components from the late 80's-early 90's.

ADCOM, if just an importer, likely has their stuff made by a wide variety of real mfr.s, and leave all the programming, and design particulars to the actual mfrs. Thus, I'm not suprised at their lack of support.

Update:

ADCOM started out as a LP cartridge company in the 70's. Later they expanded to include high-end audio components. I suspect that they ariginally were the ADC cartridge company, though their website doesn't clarify just what they were called as a cartridge company.

The GTP-500 was introduced in 1986, after apparantly renaming the company sometime earlier in the 80's. That would re-inforce the hypothesis that ADC (X=) ADCOM.

You mite ask either RSsupport or OFAsupport if they have or know the setup code (if there is one) for your GTP-500. Meanwhile I'll check the pronto files, and see if someone has learned their GTP-500 remote to a Pronto. *IF SO*, You can use JP-1 with any JP-1 Compatible remote, the software, and make an upgrade to work it.

Is the 6885 still working? Most don't because they suffer from a Y2K bug, you should replace it eveit still running.

I have all Adcom codes that I received from the manufacturer in jp-1 format. Just get a newer jp-1 capable remote with a cable and you can add your code in. I'll post it on the jp-1 site.

Hey venik,
If you would like a remote with all the Adcom codes pre-loaded, let me know.

The GTP-500 uses the Toshiba TC9148P chip which is a basic 18 button remote. I haven't found any universal remote control that will duplicate it. If someone has, I'd love to know which one!

As the earlier posts indicate, we have an upgrade for the AD500 in the JP1 file section, which means any JP1 user can program a JP1-compatible "One For All" remote to work the AD500.

Hi all,

Newbie here.

I have an Adcom GTP-502 Tuner and a Treo 600. I am looking for an idiot proof way to get the codes into my Treo AND/OR recommendations for a remote that has those codes.

So you know, the above Adcom piece is the only piece I don't have the remote for. I have tried a couple universal remotes that worked flawlessly with my other components but not the Adcom.

HELP!

Take care,

Mark

Hi Terry (or anyone)

I hope you can help me. I've been reading on a few websites about JP-1. I have a great old GTP-500 (plus a GFA-545) that I still really enjoy. The OEM remote died. I would like to buy a nice universal remote and program it so I can control the Adcom. By the posts on remotecentral.com, it appears you have successfully done this.

Would you please take a moment and describe how you did it, what remote you used, where you got the JP-1 cable (if you used one) and the exact link where you got the codes (or what the codes are). I don't fully understand where to fine this on Rob's site).

Does your "new" remote even control the motorized volume control?

I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I wouldn't expect help from someone (Terry) who made four posts a year ago, and nothing since.

I have no clue what a GTP-500 or GFA-545 is, but if you find any similar device in the JP1 file collection
[Link: hifi-remote.com]
or the RemoteCentral CCF collection
[Link: remotecentral.com]
we can help you figure out how to program a JP-1 remote for it.

Further JP-1 questions should be asked in one of the forums at

Thanks, John. Acutally it was only March '05 but your point is well taken.

There is a file in the first link for the GTP-500
[Link: hifi-remote.com]).

There is also a ZIP file on the "remotecentral" site that says it has codes for all Adcom devices. However, the GTP-500 is not listed.

If I can use the "hifi-remote file", do I just get a cable, download the software (IR.EXE or ???), open the download in the software and go from there? The file on the "hifi-remote" site is a is a text file but is jibberish to me so I assume you load it into the software. Is there also software on this site?

I greatly appreciate your response, John. I hope I can count on continued help!

Any recommendation on a remote? How do I ensure I get one that will support all of the functions of the GTP-500 original remote?
