I just bought a Neo and I am a amazed at the fact that it can't control my Philips DVP-642 DVD player.

Am I missing something? I had a choice of two codes for Philips DVD players, but neither of them worked.

Also, I think this thing is cheezy feeling and looking. I have to press the screen pretty hard to make it respond, it's light, and a lot of square corners.

I bought this as an intermediate step to buying the "pro" for about $700. I wanted to see what the quality was like.

Can my Philips remote operate my Philips DVD Player?

I have the same problem with my Motorola cable box. I had only one choice for codes with that, and it does not work. My Onkyo reciever will turn on, but not off. What's with that?

If anybody can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Paul

Please ignore this thread. I called Philips and they verified directly that this remote will not directly control a Philips DVP-642 dvd player. I know I can learn the codes, but I think I will return this remote. This is the first time I ever saw a brand name remote not be able to "via factory settings" control a component manufactured by the same company.

On top of the remote being real light and pretty cheezy overall, the fact that it wont even directly control a device of the same brand has persuaded me to pass on Philips products.

I hope everybody else has had a better experience with this. I just bought the Sony 3100 and I thouht that was a bad choice because it was so hard to read, and lacked custom labeling over most of the screen. I will reconsider.

Just for the record, Philips techinal support asked me if I had viseted the RemotCentral web site. Kudos Remote Central!

Good day,

Paul

Actually please don't disregard this thread!

I just bought a DVP642 and I'm really having trouble getting the Neo to learn the IR codes from the 642 remote.

Anyone had any luck? Anyone have a .ncf file they can send me?

I have the same problem as you do. I purchased the Pronto Neo because I lost my original remote. I thought if I purchased a universal remote from the same company as my amp was from (A Philips DFR 1600 Surround DVD Player) I would be safe. I could not get the remote to work. I called Philips and they said they recognized the unit as their product but they had no information on the DFR 1600. They said I would be better off throwing my dvd player away. Philips Tech support is not very helpful. Does anyone know where I can get a ncf file for controling a Philips DFR 1600 DVD surround device?
