The original remote for my Philips 724 DVD player no longer works, so I got a Pronto NEO, having been told it would "just work" with Philips DVD players.

Heh, heh. No it doesn't.

Would some kind person please help with one of the following:

1. Is there a code I can enter in the "Brand" area of the NEO setup that will magically let it control my DVD player? (Tried 0566 and 0530, entered by hand and with NEOedit - no go.)

2. Lacking #1, does anyone know the code that will allow me to control the DVD player using the Sony RM-VL900? Then I can choose to return the NEO, or teach it using the Sony.

3. If not #2, can anyone give me the information I need to start entering hex codes or whatever it is I should do to get individual commands/buttons to work with the DVD player?

4. If there's another way to do this I haven't thought of, I'm ready to learn about it.

Thanks - any help most appreciated.

I've got a 726 DVD from Phillips, and it's a problem to get the neo to play with it. I've also cycled thru all the philips device codes and tried to learn the remote with little success myself. Given my NEO touchscreen is dead, I'm not likely to give you any good news here.

Odd how their own stuff works so poorly togeather, isn't it?

I'm sure if you contact Philips, they'd be able to get you a new dvd remote.

I know AMX has IR codes for the 724.

You could convert those to Pronto codes and convert the pronto codes to NeoPronto codes.

They would be happy to replace the 724 remote - for $50! I've decided it's way too much to hassle with, since I already have the Sony remote. The JVC DVD player that was one of two top-rated by Consumer Reports was on sale at Amazon for $79 - less than the Pronto NEO. So it's back to Philips for the NEO, and I'll be training the Sony to work the JVC.

I have a Philips DVD 724 and I lost the remote that came with the DVD. I purchased a Philips Universal Replacement Remote for $7.56 from Walmart. This remote controls the 724 DVD.

The instructions that came with the remote described the following sequence of keystrokes. 1) Press and hold "Codesearch" button until red light is persistent. 2) Press VCR/DVD button. 3) Enter 0442*. 4) Press "Power" button to demonstrate that the remote controls the unit.

*The following list was associated with Philips DVDs: 0441, 0442, 0943, 0177, 0599, 0799, 0699, 0247, 0447, 0598.
