(UR5U) Component mode confusion (@startup,& why need to toggle?)

I messed up my 87-year old dad's UR5U-9000L-AS.  I read the manual but I'm not sure what to do (next time I visit him) to un-mess it up.

He got a new TV so I programmed the remote to operate it (by Auto-search method after the other methods failed).  So far so good (the System On/Off button operated the TV and the CableSetTopBox).

NONE of the methods worked to program the remote to operate his Yamaha soundbar, but no worries I thought, since the soundbar knows how to learn the remote's codes (for Power, Mute, Vol+, and Vol-).  The soundbar couldn't learn at first when I pressed those 4 buttons, then I pressed the AUD button first...and the soundbar did learn those 4 buttons.

And now the System On/Off button does turn on/off all 3 components.  And immediately after I did so I was delighted to find that the remote's Mute, Vol+, and Vol- buttons all worked...
(here's where it went south)
HOWEVER:  none of the CableSetTopBox's commands worked....until I pressed the CBL component button, but then the Mute, Vol+, and Vol- buttons all STOPPED working.

So: my poor old dad needs to press CBL and AUD to toggle back and forth (etc.) between operating the soundbar and the cablebox (which stuns me, since the change came NOT from programming the remote, but from programming the soundbar).

Plus, for some reason even in CBL mode the Pause button now does nothing, so dad can't pause viewing.

I'm mystified by much, such as:
  1. The Component mode appears to be AUD initially (the manual says "Default State" is STB, and I don't see a way to modify that), and
  2. I see instructions to "transfer" volume controls to another component mode, but everything about that confuses me (how to, and which mode to transfer to).

Please help me, I can't figure out what I need to do.
Edit:  Today I phoned the remote manufacturer's tech support.

They clarified (confirmed my speculation) that what I want to do is transfer the volume controls from AUD to CBL.

They explained that the initial Component mode default state is that of the last mode programmed (which though I thought I failed, must be AUD).

They speculated that the Pause button might simply have gone bad; I asked about a factory reset, and they said that re-programming CBL mode (which was already my next step) was the appropriate reset.
