When I press right, left, up or down on the round five way circular button it sometimes, but with increasing regularity, initiates a selection. Just as if I had pressed the center of the round button to make a selection.

The round button is free in its movement. I have taken the MX-700 apart and cleaned it - it was clean on the inside. There were no visible problems.

I have reprogramed the button -- same results.

This behavior is exhibeted on different components whenever the use of the round button is called for.

Has anyone experienced this behavior? Any ideas on how to correct the problem?

I just got the MX-700 back from URC last summer after they fixed a problem with the backlight.

Thanks for any help.

Today I purchased the MX-350 and I noticed that I am having the same issue with my remote. When I press right, left, up or down on the circular thumbpad, the remote believes I pressed the center "select" button. This could be a known issue as I found the following for the MX-350 on the Universal website:

New Center Select Button

The new discrete center select button is now detached from the thumbpad to offer MORE ACCURATE response to button presses.

Notice my emphasis on "more accurate" (the same clause above is also found on the Universal website for the MX-650 and the MX-850 remotes). If the issue was truly resolved, they would have omitted the word "MORE".

Is anyone else having this same issue? Any way to resolve this? Otherwise I'm returning this bad apple back to the store and distancing myself from these Universal remotes.

Thanks.

The issue was not an actual hardware problem, it was the fact that there was no actual button for select, rather you had to depress the entire keypad. Quite often when you intended to press "select" you did not press the button, but rather a direction, and therefore the response was not what was desired.

I had never heard of the issue in the first post, so it sounds quite rare. Probably not your problem.

In the, literally, hundreds of 350s, 650s, 700s, 800s, and 850s We've sold/programmed, I've never had this problem. The typical problem was stated in POST 3 and was the reason for the seperated center select button on the new models.

I wouldn't give up on an entire company for an issue as isolated as this one. Call URC and see what they can do for you, their service is quite respectable.

I ended up taking back my MX-350 at the store and replacing it for another MX-350 - all is good now. The first one I had must have been defective.

Regarding this concern, I have switched the exit (EXT button) and cancel button (cancel being the button in the middle of the remote) because I find that I hit enter more frequently and enjoy the quick sure steady response from the free standing button versus the wobbly botton in the middle of the circular button and because I use cancel far less frequently. You could also reprogram the "+10+ botton or the "ENT" button (more careful with ENT since some programs use this for key functions, but if not you are okay). That may assist you in avoiding the problem. Good luck.
