Hi to all!

Philips has terminated the EPG service with 1st March 2010. [Link: pronto.philips.com]

Since this time I have the following problem with my iPronto.

The remote tries to update EPG every morning at about 5 a.m. Because of the terminated EPG service the update is not successful and my iPronto show the following problem. The LCD light always stay on, therfore the batterie gets empty very quickly.

The only way to solve this problem is to make a reboot, this helps until the next EPG update.

I reported this problem already to philips, but as usua,l you don't get an answer from philips. Their customer service is very bad.

Does anyone has the same problem, or has a solution.

Best regards from Austria
Werner

There is no way to turn off the EPG - even a factory reset maintains your EPG settings. I'm hoping that Philips will release a final firmware version that completely cuts off the EPG function (I mean how hard would that be to do...)

I hope too, but I think it will not happen. philips is not interested anymore to spent some work to the iPronto, they only want to sell their new expensive devices, otherwise i could not explain, that there is no reaction from the support, altough i wrote them several times.

I tried yesterday another solution for the EPG problem, because I saw, that rebooting the iPronto does not work always ( Until now no idea why). I changed the iPronto system date yesterday , after the failed EPG update to april 20, 2010.
Till now the pronto doesn't try to make an EPG update. The next scheduled epg update is may 21, 2010

I keep you informed, if this solution will work for a longer time.

best regards

EPG will not update either, but that was expected. Companies change and so to does their services and products.
That said, I don't use the Internet on iPronto now, although tested a few days ago. I only just got it as a birthday present.

I have not got NetX box or anything else and lets face it, the browser is incapable of doing much now anyway, it so out of date and with no updates in sight or the code being released, its pointless. And slow.... well.

My EPG account details are 'blank' and the wireless connection is to my own wireless private network (not hooked to ISPs Modem but my own).

Actually, you don't need NetX either, an cheap Audio/Video Transmitter/Receiver will do just as well (the ones you use for normal remote control for other rooms on TV, Dvd and so on). Serves two purposes and cheaper. Tested it myself and works well for all devices and iPronto. However, a wide 'beam' transmitted signal device (without attaching little IR units to the face of your TV,dvd) would be a better solution. Looking for that now.

I don't get any problems with anything staying ON with the iPronto, eg; LEDs etc.
The battery (I believe its the same as the date released) lasts for days and days and all works well.
This must be one of a few that work as it was intended with the exception of using WEP encryption to log onto ISP. This may be due to the sign of the times, things change.

Phlips (Belgium?) are a waste of time on most of their after care services. I begin to doubt if the unit was manufactured by them anyway, just re-badged like some of Grundig's old stuff. Have a look at a Korean company called Sorell if you want to buy stuff. Knock the stuffing out of European manufacturers in quality and features and the prices, well, take a look.

I love my iPronto. It does ALL the buttons of ALL the remote controls of our Tv's, Dvds, Media Player, old Projectors and PMP without a problem, 12 in all).
The MMC card works well and the 2.6 software does what I need. Just wish the firmware was available in .bin format and it could be loaded to iPronto via the MMC card rather that relying on some website (now that was a stupid idea or is it built in obsolescence? I wonder).

Cheers

Since the last build for the TSi6400 was in July 2005 (version 1.9), I'm not holding my breath for an update that disables/removes the EPG.

Hi to all!

Also changing the date to an earlier day, does not prevent the iPronto from trying downloading the EPG. I don't know why it help for one day, but the next day, it was still the same problem.

I found out that the iPronto tried 6 times every 15 minutes to update the EPG, after the first download failed. During this time, the display is always on. After the last failed download the display turn off after the specified time has reached (I have set the time to turn off the display to 30 seconds).

I post my settings from the iPronto, maybe ppl can compare them with his settings, it seems he has no problems that the LCD stay on during the epg update

My solution is that I disconnect the battery and the power every night. Just turn it on when I am using my home system. I wait the minute or two for it to boot up by which time everything else is ready to go. Philips has had sorry support for this remote since it came out.

Some weeks ago I wrote a email to Philips about the EPG Problem. I told them that maybe a solution would be to place a "dummy" EPG file on their website to suggest the iPronto that the EPG download was successful. Below you find the answer from Philips. So maybe there will be some hope for the future.

*************************************
Thank you for contacting the prontoteam. We are very sorry to inform you that the EPG services is finished.

The EPG service is not available anymore so unsubscribe is also impossible.

We have discussed this in the team, and up to know we didn’t found a solution that fit the two of us.

We don’t have the resources and this is not planned to upgrade the firmware, the fastest solution would be to place a “dummy” like you mentioned.

We are taking this serious and hope that we can provide a solution to you problem in the near future.

In the mean time I would suggest to have some patience.

Sorry for this inconvenience

Best regards

The Prontoteam
