Hi,

I'm thinking about buying and iPronto and I read about most of it's features (and shortcomings) but am still left with some smaller questions:

- main question: is it possible to learn the iPronto the Windows Media Center Ed. Commands...in other words: can you control Win MCE with the iPronto...because that would be a major plus instead of having to use the M$ remote. As far as I know it's all IR, so in theory it can happen ? Has it already been done ?
- which audio/video file types are supported ? (JPG, BMP, MP3, ... ?)
- I believe a keyboard is present but how exactly does the 'mousing' work ? Do you have to work with a touch kinda mouse wheel thingie ? Or do you just point where you want to go ?

Thank in advance for answering,

Pete

Pete,

I have an iPronto and have recently set up a PC with Windows XP MCE. I programmed the MCE remote control buttons into a screen on my iPronto and it works just fine.

The iPronto is just reproducing the IR control functionality of the MCE remote so I'm don't know how to answer your audio/video file type question. I have seen a thread in this forum that talks about the iPronto browser being used to remotely control the MCE PC via RealVNC, but the iPronto is not handling any of the MCE audio/video content as far as I know.

I borrowed an MCE keyboard and used it directly with my MCE PC. The mousing is achieved via a small stumpy rubber joystick in the top RHS corner of the keyboard (you press it down with your thumb and move it around). It worked OK but was not as fluid as a mouse. You do left and right clicks via keys on the top LHS corner of the keyboard.

I plan to borrow the keyboard again and program all the keys into my iPronto. My iPronto screen design skills are limited so it will be a very basic looking screen.

Note that all of this requires the MCE PC to have an IR receive capability. I have the OrigenAE X15e case, which came with an IRTrans module installed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, that helped a lot. Although I'm now leaning towards buying an RC9800i first to see if I can get the same funcionality. About the IR receiver, I knew about that, just don't know where to get a separate one yet.

Darryl, please keep us updated. I've been thinking myself for a long while about getting the iPronto and teach it not only the remote but also the keyboard. I just haven't wanted to be the first to try it. How would you implement the mouse; with up/down/left/right buttons??

Brgds

Danny,

I have started to make up the iPronto screens and will arrange to borrow my friends MCE keyboard at some point.

The mouse buttons may have diagonals as well as up/down and left/right. I think I will need to do some combination buttons also eg Shift-F4, Alt-Ctl-Del etc.

I would like to get to this in the next week or so but I have a lot of higher priority items on my list at the moment (or should I say "My Wife's list"?).

Thanks for the interest.

Hi, I was wondering if you could email me your MCE files so I could use them as a starting point in my remote? I just bought a media center PC yesterday, and was thinking about doing the exact same thing with the keyboard and all. I didn't even think about trying to include the mouse! Anyway, if you could give me even just your basic MCE controls that would be amazing!

Thanks,
JAKE
