How does the interface handle the switch from regular to menu mode, e.g. :
- in regular mode it uses the 5 buttons for transport control
- in menu mode it uses them for navigation?

What are the steps for e.g. DVD when you make some change in the audio settings of a DVD, or in the setup of the DVD Player?

Same question for TiVo owners: how do you go to the Now Playing list, pick a program and go back to "transport" mode?

Thx...

Whoa...!! Given the overwhelming response to my question :) let me narrow it down a bit.

I assume you can call up a TiVo or DVD menu by pushing the "mode" button, which I think will probably also send the corresponding IR code (besides switching the remote from transport to nav mode).

The question is: when you exit the menu, will you need to manually switch the remote back to transport mode, or does it have some magical way of knowing when you exit the menu?

Arjen: I don't have TiVo, but the setup for DVD lets you push the mode button, and watch the menu switch back and forth between "Navigate" mode, "Contol" mode, and "Play" mode. Each mode has a different list of commands displayed for it. Selecting a mode itself does not send out a signal.

When you choose to select "Control" mode, you are presented with the "Change Activity" menu, which lists your preset activities. So, in your case, you would select "TiVo" or "Watch TiVo" or whatever you named it during setup, when you are ready to leave DVD mode. ... Mike

OK thanks Mike.

That pretty much eliminates the HR for me, or rather, the family. If I am in a DVD menu, and have the remote in navigation mode, then select a particular movie fragment for playing, the HR still stays in nav mode and the user must manually put it back in transport mode. Too complicated for my kids, babysitters etc.

This was THE main reason for me to switch from the T2 to the MX-500.

I really like the minimalistic design of the HR, with no confusing buttons whatsoever. VERY nice remote, but not for me.

Thanks!
