A couple of times now I was ready to purchase this remote but I keep asking myself why should I demonstrate any trust in Harmony when the company itself obviously lacks confidence in its product? A 90 day warranty is a joke in this day and age. When any company produces a product with a 90 day warranty when the industry standard is at least 1yr, you got to ask why? Do they know something we don't? I'm still undecided as to which remote to purchase; Harmony or the MX-500 which by the way has a 1yr warranty.

I agree with you rj, they should amend the warranty to a one year term which would be in line with other quality remotes of this price range.

Didn't bother me. I love this thing. What a great idea, no macros!

I've been lucky... I had backlight trouble with my Pronto during the first week I had it.

Hey, I consider 90 days enough to stress-test anything in my house.

Yeah, ok 90 days to stress test, mabey that is enough, mabey it's not. The industry standard seems to be 12 mos, so why not follow that?

The thing that bothers me a little more is the restocking fee. Yes, I can afford the remote, and I could part with 15% of the cost if I lost it some how (gampling on a boat or whatever), but I don't really want to gamble on a remote. I want to be able to test with this remote and make sure it does what I need it to do before I invest in it, and they are asking me to "gamble" 15% of the cost. I know it's only $30, plus shipping, but honestly, that is the one thing that is making me pause before buying it. (Note: the warrenty does NOT help either, but the restocking fee is the one that bothers me the most.)

EZ: If you really have faith in the product, then show it. Extend the warrenty to 12mos and get rid of the restocking fee and I will order one THAT day. If it is as good as it seems, I won't return it.

I absolutely agree with ruexp67. If it weren't for this restocking fee, and 15 day return window (From what I've gathered with the serious lack of documentation it could take this long just to get it configured, none-the-less tested on my system) I would have purchased one of these remotes already. If it does what they say it does then it's exactly what I have been looking for. The problem is that I've heard these stories before.

$15 shipping, $30 restocking, $15 shipping = $60 if the remote isn't "All that". Sorry, I just can't swallow this.

Loose the restocking fee and allow at least a 30 days to return it. If the product is truely as good as you say then why would someone return it.

You could always put the thing on ebay, with a reserve of 180.00, and have buyer pay shipping. Then your out only 20.00.

IF it sells...

two cents

Perhaps things have changed? Here's what's on their website:

"Your Harmony Remote has a 366 day repair or exchange warranty for factory assembly defects only, not normal wear and tear over time (including UV light), acts of nature (rain, animals as examples), buyer's remorse, commercial or institutional use, or any user mishap or misuse. Abnormal use or abuse, as we determine at inspection, will void the warranty. Warranty coverage applies to the original owner only and is not transferable."

Tomt, something HAS changed. Harmony increased it's warrenty time, and I applaud them for doing so. It shows some confidance in the quality of their equipment. However, the following is still there:

"We want you to be satisfied with every purchase, and we will make every effort to resolve any problems you may have.

The Harmony has a 15-day money-back guarantee. There is a 15% restocking fee on all non-defective opened/unopened items.

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Harmony, please email Returns@EasyZapper.com (no phone requests please) within 15 days for a refund (less 15% restocking fee). All non-defective returns must arrive in the original packaging in resalable condition, with all original components included."

If I bought this, I would only do so with the express intent of keeping it, but if I get it and even with EasyZapper's help I am still unable to get it to do what I need it to do, then I have to pay the restocking fee and return shipping. :-(

The extension of the warrenty (as I mentioned) is a show of confidance in the hardware. Now so show us some confidance in the Software/Concept of the unit, and I will show you the confidance you need (i.e. my confidential CC#)

A lot of places, if not all, have a restocking fee, I don't agree that it is outrageous to ask for a fee, since you changed your mind.

"Awww c'mon, Ma! EVERYBODY'S doing it!"

There are a few PLACES that have restocking fees. There are fewer websites that charge restocking because they know that sometime people just need to hold something in their hands. I don't have a problem with BB or CC having a restocking fee because I know I can go there and get a sense of the item before I purchase. I don't buy from any website that charges a restocking fee, none.

you got me there, but we did use that excuse to get them to increase their warranty :-)

All I meant is that it is not unseen or abnormal.

There are fewer websites that charge restocking

I have only seen it on the web. Stores around here either accept returns or not.

I don't buy from any website that charges a restocking fee

I guess that is your choice.

I think there is a lot of info starting with Daniel's review and the posts on this site to make an educated decision. Plus if you have other questions I am sure that someone here (or even the people at EasyZapper) would probably help answer your question.

I was just teasing a little. Again, I am VERY encouraged that they increased their warranty.

Yes, there is a lot of information, and I have learned everything I possibly can from this forum. The question now becomes how will it work for me, or even, WILL it work for me? No one can answer that. They only way to be sure is to buy one and try it out. I just can't justify a trial with the state of the restocking fee. Again, I know it's not much, but it is the principle of the thing. Mabey as they grow they will offer the remote via traditional channels, and I will be able to try before I buy at BB or CC. For now I have a Pronto so I can be patient.
