I use my projector for watching DVD's, so when choosing the Watch DVD activity, I would like the remote to turn off my TV if it is on.

Any suggestions as to how to accomplish this?

Thanks

Do this mean that your TV is not a "member" of your Watch DVD activity?

If so, I think you must add the TV to the activity:
- Click Advanced at the left of the main page
- Enter Advanced mode by clicking the Advanced button
- Go to homepage, and click your activity and "Run the setup wizard again for this activity."
- Enter the wizard by clicking the Advanced button (not Next button)
- At the end of the wizard, you can now add your TV as a Passthrough device
- You can now add a IR-command (or several) for your TV

If you need to send a IR-command only IF THE TV IS ON, I think this can be done by using the "Internal State Variable"-functionality. This I have not tried, but the documentation is found in the Advanced section.

Hope this help...

Jan,

Thanks. I think I need to use the Internal State Variable. I've looked briefly at the example on the web site, but haven't tackled it yet.

I also use a projector for watching DVDs. The watch DVD activity is set using the projector as the display device. If I change activities, ie watch TV to watch DVD, the TV is turned off and the projector is turned on.
If what you want is to have to option of watching DVD on either the TV or the Projector, just add a second watch DVD activity defining it with the projector. Therefore changing activity watch DVD on TV to watch DVD on Projector will keep only one display device on.

Jeff,

Thanks, I finally got that working. Do you have electronic zoom or focus for your pj? I'm having trouble getting these to work in the same way as a volume control, i.e. holding it down should keep sending the signal, but so far it just sends it once, so I have to keep clicking to repeat it....

Hello again Tomt!
Have you read the "SsInfrared" part of the advanced doc? Here is a "clip":
"SendInfrared %Name%
Sends the infrared command specified by %Name%. Note that the convention is that if %Name% ends with '_Press', then the infrared will not repeat, but if it ends with '_Hold', then it will repeat for as long as a key is held down."

Maybe this will help?

Jan,

Thanks again for your help. Can you tell me what part of the advanced doc I can find that in?

Jan,

I found it. Do you have any examples using this?

I have not tried it in the "real world" yet. I'm still playing with the simulator. I'm not sure which button or menuitem you use to zoom / focus. If it is a hard button, I would have done it like this (if its a menuitem under "Play mode" or "Navigate mode", I'm sure thats no problem to fix too):
- Enter My Activities
- Add a new activity -> Utility -> Change Button Function
- Select your activity where you like to change a buttom behaviour
- Select your menu where you like to change a buttom behaviour
- Select the hard button which you like to change behaviour (that should be volume up or down)
- Select the device the signal should be sent to (that should be your pj)
- Select the IR you want to send (That should be something with FocusUp / FocusDown etc)
- Save this operations
- Enter My Activities again
- Select rename a activity and rename the Change Button F. to something logical ("Change Button FocusUp Projector" or something like that??) This is not neccessary, but ofcourse it's easier to find the correct CB Function later!!)
- Enter My Activities again
- Select Modify the XML.... and select your new CB Function
- In both and section you should now see SendInfrared ..something..._Press and FRIENDLYOPERATION>SendInfrared ..something..._Press. Change _Press to _Hold all places. Should be 4 places I think
- Save it with "Change" button

If you want to change both volume up and down (I'm sure you will) you can either create a new "Change Button Function", but you can also modify your XML in the first "Change Button Function", and duplicate/change neccessary code-lines. Do what you preffer.

Do this help?

Ooops...tricky to submit XML-code lines, using < and > characters!!

Second last point in above message should be:
- In both <WEBDATA> and <DATA> section you should now see <OPERATION>SendInfrared ..something..._Press</OPERATION> and <FRIENDLYOPERATION>SendInfrared ..something..._Press</FRIENDLYOPERATION>. Change _Press to _Hold all places. Should be 4 places I think
