It is one of the most energetic shows on TV. I don't think the dr is the best actor for the job, but he is enertaining.

Factoid: The first episode contained a version of every Dalek - including a 1963 original.

Ponder: How's The Doctor going to get Jenna-Louise Coleman out of the Dalek?

I did not like the first episode, I thought it lacked credibility, thought and was not true to the essence of the Daleks: What I mean is that we have seen in the past that Daleks will kill other Daleks but now the writers decided that they just emprison them on a planet with no escape (except for a transporter that can only beam out of there). The prisons defence is a force field that can only be turned off from the inside by the inmates and nanites that can turn any living (or dead) flesh into camouflaged Daleks that have the memories and act like the host when not in action. Why didn't they use that tech on every invasion (since its existence) to thwart any interference of the doctor?
Drop a few billion nanites, wait a few months until everyone is converted and then come out?

As for the second one I found it to be a fun filler episode. I don't know if it is part of a bigger arc but that was the impression I got.

How's The Doctor going to get Jenna-Louise Coleman out of the Dalek?

for that one, I have had a couple of ideas

1) it will be an earlier her (kind of the same way when we were first introduced to River Song, she knew the Dr. but he did not know her). I base that on when she said something like "remember Dr." or something like that at the end of the episode

2)This might be far fetched, but maybe he wont. There were those pseudo Daleks that looked human And she is a genius. What if she escaped and made a fake body for herself?

PS. on the other hand I did like the soufflé joke in the first episode

eggs-stir-milk-bake

From your responses I gain the impression you've not been digging it for quite a while. Presumably you don't carry a fold up trowel in your pocket.

Personally I did enjoy the episode, but the Ponds have definitely become superfluous.

I gave Matt Smith a fair crack or the whip and i feel he is only as good as the writing but he is far from Tom baker or David tennant , John Pertwee, william Hartnell and Christopher Eccleston who i preferred as doctors ..i liked the early episodes with him , but i feel the writing has gone way off , the doctor in the episode was not mega intelligent and did not solve the problem by coming left field..
I actually think House MD has more in common with old doctors , with him knowing he is the smartest person in the room socially awkward and saying random comments ..pond corrected The doctor over a small thing , he carried a gun , he never came across as uber smart.
it tends to be a lot of psycho babble talking the young rioter down.
i also felt sad for the leading man in farscape being a small side character in this episode.

I do feel the Dinosaurs the western setting Egypt are all things they know sell so write episodes around that rather than writing a good dialogue science based show.

will still watch it though!!

what surprised me is a friend on facebook who is a massive fan said
"Worst episode of Doctor Who ever. Not happy."

He goes to conventions and is obsessed with Dr Who.

lets hope the next few episodes are better.

I agree, in the sense that I don’t know why they decided the doctor does not need real companions (right first episode he showed up picked them up, second episode he went back picked them, the queen and that other guy because he needed them, then brought them back. To me companions were always window dressings, by that I mean the doctor could have done it all himself and did not need anyone but he liked the company. While in this episode he needed Amy to be his moral compass.

On the other hand, from the preview, it appears that this was not a standalone episode and they introduced the cyborg for a reason, so I am willing to wait and see the whole story.

I've watched it through a couple more times and I still can't understand that reaction.
