Which is better: Sony S530 or Toshiba 3109? Or, are they about the same?

Thanks

Read the comments here about the SONY Lip Sync problem. I bought a DVPS550D on September 4 which has the problem. I have not contacted SONY yet. I bought SONY because most of my other components are SONY including the TV and, in general, I like their stuff. If all else is equal I would buy the Toshiba at this point to avoid the future need to send the SONY in for an upgrade -- whetever that turns out to be.

I would be returning my 550 for a Toshiba if I could still do that. Unfortunately I don't still hae all the packing materials etc. I threw that stuff away before I noticed the Lip Sync Issue.

I believe a fix for the Sony lip-sync problem has been found. Current players can be upgraded. The Toshiba is a good player. They're fairly similar, but the Sony has more frills.

I should have added to my note that: Overall, I am quite happy with the SONY 550(Other than the AV Sync Issue). I have read various threads saying it is fixed / it is not fixed. I will call SONY this week and see what they have to say.

Daniel -- This is a great page. Lots of good info, very helpfull

I don't even own a DVD player and I'm posting!! Well, actually I used to but I sent it back because I have been waiting patiently for a progressive scan DVD player to come out. Looks like my prayers might be answered in October with the Toshiba SD5109! Can't wait. I own a Toshiba TP61H95 rear projection TV that will accept a progressive scan image and also is HDTV ready. I own 10 movies but no player! HURRY UP TOSHIBA!
I haven't been following the Sony line that closely but I feel with the release of a progressive scan player and the SD9000 Toshiba will be ahead of Sony in the DVD market.
