Has anyone heard if there is a fix for this problem?

I wrote Sony and they promptly replied, wanting specific DVD titles and my DVD model #. They said they're aware of a problem and they are trying to isolate/duplicate it. That was over a month ago and I haven't heard anything yet.

Unbelievable! I had this same problem when I bought my player last April and the only difference is that they now know about the problem instead of stonewalling. They were stonewalling because further investigation found that there were lots of complaints, even then. Of course they are still selling the players...

I finally returned my player and exchanged it for a Toshiba which has a better picture and trouble free!

Advice: Return your player before it's too late. Even if they own up to a fix, you will be without a player for weeks. I guarantee, the problem will become more annoying as time goes on.

(I'm avoiding Sony in the future. I've heard other horror stories on other Sony gear since I started checking on this problem.)

As an update: the Sony lip-sync problem seems to have been fixed on all affected players: S530, S550, s330. Any players manufactured after August 15th 1999 have a new logic chip and EEPROM already installed. Any players with v2.02 or newer firmware also have the fix.

If you currently own one of these players made at an earlier date you can take it in to Sony for repair.

I have the 550 model, but haven't encountered any problems yet. How can I check to see if my player has the problem?

Spoke with Sony rep today. According to her, Sony has "not yet" fixed the "Lip Sync" promblem on the 530. They are aware of it and are still looking for the cause. If you are concerned, you need to call them and give them your information ie name etc. and DVD serial number. Once they have the "fix", they will notify you and will repair your DVD player for free, regardless of how old it is. Be ready for a run around though. It took me two days to get ahold of an actual person to speak with. Their customer service phone numbers send you on a never ending goose chase, "press 2 the press 4, then press 3, then call 1 800.... and it goes on and on.
Hope this helps,
Sean
