I just bought a DVD player and I was searching my local video rental stores to see which ones carried DVD's. One of the stores I stopped at which did not carry DVD's told me he was waiting for a HDTV DVD format with higher res. before he invested in DVD's for his store. Is there any truth to this? As I have no idea since I don't read the hi fi rags. I would like to know before I spend too much on DVD's, as I'm already considering selling my old VHS Videos at my next garage sale for a couple bucks each. I would like to avoid doing that all over agin with my DVD's in couple years. Thanks.

There is ALWAYS something new on the horizon, but that video store owner is really foolish considering how popular -- and cheap -- DVDs are. There is no "release plan" for HDDVDs, but you can bet that they (or something similar) will come out eventually. Anamorphic DVDs look fabulous. Unless you expect to be viewing them on a 100" screen you're probably not going to need better for quite a while.

Thanks for the info Daniel. Well at least it isn't changing as fast as I seem to change my cpu's.
