I recently bought a Pioneer DV-414 and have noticed that if I am scanning through a scene or pausing and "un-pausing" a disc, the audio and video tracks are no longer running in sync. I think I read about this on another site, but cannot find any info. I noticed that a few people seemed to be having the same problems with Sony. Anyone know anything about the Pioneer problem?

The Pioneer problem is well-known. I'm not sure if Pioneer has found/fixed it yet.

Is this just for the 414, or does it happen on the 505 as well? I have a 505, and don't seem to notice this problem...

I also have the 414 but have never experienced problems with the lip-synch error. I only have pro-logic and I am using the RCA's jacks too. I have heard in dvd news groups that is shows up when you use the digital connection or on machines with a creation date of Nov. 1998 or earlier. I bought a player that was manufactured in Jan. 1999. I also bought it before I had ever heard of a lip-synch problem. It's a great deal for the price and I knew some day I would use the component jacks as well. Pioneer say's its a problem with the quality of how a dvd is manufactured. But i have heard it happen to so many people, and in some cases Pioneer replacing the unit. I am happy not have any problems but I guess only time will tell? Till then I will keep my fingers crossed......

My 505 (UK) shows this fault on certain discs - Austin Powers (region 1) is the worst offender. Pioneer have acknowledged that there is a problem but say that there is nothing that can be done to fix it

I've seen it briefly in Fargo, when Buschemi is talking to his partner in the car. Not too bad, though -- it only lasted for a few seconds. I realize it's kind of a drag, but not the catastrophe that people make it out to be.

Tim: if possible I would return your DV-414, and get a DV-525 unit. The DV-525 just came out and is a replacement for the 414 model. Since it is a brand new model, I'm hoping that the lip-sync problem that plauged the DV-414 is fixed :).

Key word is hoping :)
