It is indeed true... I checked several sources, including www.divx.com. Oh well, we all know that the inevitable must happen, and alas it did.

Now I hope that all those studios that held back titles for Open DVD release would get their act together...

Daniel: they won't have much choice. If they want to make any money in the digital home video market, the only choice is DVD (as it should always have been).

From the DIVX site: "Sales at participating Divx retailers reflect strong consumer interest in the Divx feature..." - Obviously not strong enough!

Reading on, it seems like it's a bum deal anyway...the so called 'unlimited viewing' (silver disc) will go on until 2001...you call that unlimited?!

This is great news! Not a surprise that it happened just that it happened this soon. I figured another 12 months or so. But when it kept effecting the bottom line, I'm sure stock holders were crying for action.

To all of you DIVX owners (both of you) remember:

1) You can get a refund on all "silver" discs

2) You can get a $100 rebate on you DIVX player

3) All regular discs will play until 2001

I have one DIVX disc that Im using as a trophy of a format death. Its a coaster. DIVX was one format that we all knew was doomed from the start. It is truly a format killed by info on the web. Ths why it didnt take very long. Thank God.
