Just bought a second-hand Samsung BD-D5100 (Model BD-D5100ZC). No remote
included. I live in Canada and am looking for something also second-hand as most of the replacements are labelled *NEW* priced around or over $20. I only payed
$10 for the player.

Comparing the amount you paid for the player with the amount you'll have to pay for the remote is not reasonable.

Are you okay with a ten dollar player with no remote, or would you rather have a $30 player with a remote? Those are your choices.

You could even look at it this way: the convenience of a remote easily makes a BD player three times more valuable than a player with no remote.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You can buy a headphone jack IR blaster, then control your Bluray player with app on your phone. this solution is much cheaper than a real universal remote, but the user experience also compromized.

Fang,
Let's say he's got the phone app installed and working. He's watching a movie and the sound is up LOUD.

The phone rings.

What does he do?

As I envision it, he doesn't answer the phone first, but instead navigates to the control app, then hits PAUSE. Then he goes to the phone call and answers it.

If he has not accidentally answered the phone while racing to turn on the BD control app, is the phone still ringing when he tries to answer?

He grabs his second phone and mutes the volume with that, while answering the call with phone #1. (Or vice versa.) A real maker is not afraid of any expenses in order to save money....

"A real maker is not afraid of any expenses in order to save money...." I love that answer!

My next favorite answer is in the previous post, where the guy's CELL PHONE is ringing and he answers his second phone (for this to work the second phone has to be on the same phone number... and a cell phone at that... two cell phones on the same number... right....)

I might as well throw this in here. It's not related but it's related:
